  • We walked across the pedestrian bridge from the Corning Museum to the Gaffer District. It was a bit like a main street with many stores and restaurants. We took a nice walk down the 3-4 blocks and wen...  read more »

  • Downtown Corning is sincerely the saving grace of the Twin Tiers area for a fifty mile radius. After moving to Elmira, my husband and I were just desperate for a nice place to stroll and good food. Watkins Glen, Wellsboro, and Ithaca are great, but farther than we'd like to travel with three kids most days. Corning is just perfect, with the best small businesses around, easy to stroll with the kids, yet offers great date night opportunities that can't be found elsewhere within at least fifty miles. There is something for everyone, from casual pizza joints and burrito bars, to upscale restaurants and high end shopping. The Gaffer District also offers wonderful family events throughout the year. As a family, we don't know how we would survive those lazy weekends without Corning nearby.
  • Nice community area where you may be able to catch a farmer's market or make your own picnic. Good place to stop between NYC and Niagara. If you have time on your trip go to the glass museum
  • There are two downtowns in our area that can take you back to the time. The fist is Corning's Gaffer District and the second is downtown Wellsboro, PA. The Gaffer District includes Market and Bridge Streets in downtown Corning. However, since the majority of activity happens on Market Street, this review will center on Market Street. The merchants and Corning Incorporated do a lot for this small town, and it shows everywhere you look. Small businesses are king in the Gaffer District, from the many full-service restaurants to the retail establishments selling high-end handbags or olive oils, there's something for everyone on Market Street. There are even a few businesses that leave water bowls out for your dog. You have shops like Van Heusen, Bass Shoes, Conner's Mercantile or The Source and restaurants like Aniello's, The Gaffer, Atlas Brick Oven Pizza, and The Source Factory Number 2, Subway, and Tony R's. There are some events throughout the year that are worth attending. The area is missing universal free Wi-Fi, but many of the shops do offer access.
