#1 of 16 in Things to do in Coos Bay
Admire the wide array of gardens and flora on the grounds of a former pioneer estate at Shore Acres State Park, nestled along the forested edge of the Pacific Ocean. Visit the park and wander its 2 hectares (5 acres) of landscaped gardens, replete with both local and exotic plants and crisscrossed by numerous footpaths. Make your way to the Japanese-inspired lily pond area and pause for a peaceful moment of reflection. Head for the nearby sandstone cliffs to take in a sweeping view over the sea, complete with waves crashing powerfully against the rock below. Keep your eyes open and you may even spot the spout of a migratory gray whale. Arrange to visit Shore Acres State Park and other attractions in Coos Bay using our Coos Bay online travel planner .

  • This was one of two stops we made on a trip from Eugene OR to Trinidad CA and it didn’t disappoint. The views are beautiful and the gardens are very well maintained. There is a $5 fee for entrance but we thought it was well worth it.
  • Very nice beach to walk along, lots of sand. Parking was very accessible to the beach, with public toilets. There is a very nice campground at the top that I drove through in mind for future visits. It's got spots for tent camping, spots for camping trailers and RVs (borh with and without utilities) and even a few cabins. There's a small playground for kids with a slide, swings, and other play equipment. Most if the campsites seemed to have large hedges in-between to provide separation and privacy.
  • Love this little park! Great little walk down to the beach. Captivating tide pools. Could have watched all those busy little crabs for hours. Do not pass over the gardens! They are lush, fragrant, and have a wide variety of roses. Saw a salamander too, swimming around in the lily pad pond. Lots of photo opportunities here!
  • This park is gorgeous. Totally worth going to. The gardens are absolutely stunning. It has a very peaceful atmosphere. The Rose garden has many award winning flowers on display, and both The freshener and appearance will lift the mood. The beach right next to the park, Simpson Beach, is quite a walk but very worth it.
  • I've been going here for years now but this is the first time in the daylight. I'm usually at shore acres around Christmas time during which the botanical gardens are decorated with thousands of lights. There's a great little gift shop and a ton of history there. As must see if your travelling to through. Down just a bit farther pass shore acres is Simpson reef with some the most spectacular ocean front one can imagine.
