Farm History Museum
Take a trip back in time at The Farmers' Museum, a living history museum providing insight into the lifestyle of 19th-century farmers. Take time to explore the outdoor exhibits of about 50 restored buildings, including a tavern, pharmacy, blacksmith's shop, doctor's office, general store, and printer's shop. The museum also contains a full-sized carousel, noted for its handcrafted panels and large-scale mural representing the history, culture, and natural resources of the state of New York. Situated on land once owned by celebrated author James Fenimore Cooper, the open-air museum contains several Colonial Revival-style buildings designed by architect Frank Whiting and listed on the National Register of Historic Places. You'll have a chance to visit three gift shops and two cafes on the museum grounds. Make The Farmers' Museum part of your personalized Cooperstown itinerary using our Cooperstown tour planner.

  • I love the museum, it always has interesting exhibits, no matter how many times I visit, I learn something new. I thank them for the work they do to continue to share our past history. A very important part of who we are.
  • The farmers museum is a neat place to visit, especially if you like learning about history! There's a whole village to walk through, with historic buildings, and houses. They also have employees who are dressed in clothing that fits the time they're portraying, and doing various things that people did back in the 19th century. They're great about giving neat information about what life was like, and the things people did back then! It's almost like you've actually gone back in time! Gotta check this place out!
  • Great place, I'm so glad we came here, my kids loved it, great experience for us all. Very friendly staff, beautiful settings, well designed. Definitely worth making a trip just to town just to visit this place. I'll be visiting soon again. 👍👍
  • Great little place with knowledgeable cast members. My daughter loved the farm. We are so glad we decided to stop here.
  • See a working farm ride a work of art carousel. A must do. Great for children. Carousel is 1.00.
