The Mall in Columbia, also known as the Columbia Mall, or The Mall, is the central shopping mall for the planned community of Columbia, Maryland, United States. It has five anchor department stores (Sears, JCPenney, Nordstrom, Macy's, and Lord & Taylor) and over 200 specialty stores. It includes a 14-screen AMC Theatres. The mall is located in the Town Center area of the city and attracts shoppers from surrounding counties in Maryland.HistoryArchitect Frank Gehry designed The Rouse Company Columbia exhibit building, and was initially selected to design the neighboring mall centerpiece. Gehry was later rejected by Rouse for lack of experience, and the firm of Cope, Linder, & Walmsley was contracted for the project. The Mall opened in 1971 with two major anchor stores: Hochschild Kohn's (which was replaced by Hecht's in the mid-1970s) and Woodward & Lothrop (a.k.a. Woodies, which closed in late 1995 and was replaced by JCPenney in July 1996), as well as a McCrory's and Lerner's, which were minor anchors. Howard Research and Development was probed shortly after opening for purchasing bulk energy contracts on electricity while charging market rates to tenants. To visit The Mall in Columbia and other attractions in Columbia, use our Columbia trip builder.

The Mall of Columbia is so boring. The stores are typical and the food court need to be revamp. It would be nice to include Zara and more shoe stores for women. more »

Clean and neat on the inside and most of the outside. Great selection of stores, though there's definitely room for improvement. The food court is fine but if you prefer something a bit more upscale there are other restaurants available to cater to your tastes. The movie theater is close as well.
Great place to shop. But I only use a quarter of the mall which is the food court and the area above it. Only store that fit my demographic. Still a lovely mall.
Really good mall with great food choice, lots of shopping variety. Favorite store is BentoBox! It is so freaking cool. The mall is very clean and well kept with custodians cleaning throughout the day. It can get super packed sometimes, but it is a wonderful mall.
Nice mall. It has a carousel for kids, a lot of shops, a food court and two levels. There is an amc next to the mall and upscale shops.
The Mall in Columbia is the center, and an icon of the city itself. It's ever expanding and continues to become better. They are building new high-rise homes around the mall, with storefronts to eat and shop. The Mall offers plenty of places to shop, eat, see a movie, get coffee, visit an Apple store, and more.
