The Mall in Columbia, also known as the Columbia Mall, or The Mall, is the central shopping mall for the planned community of Columbia, Maryland, United States. It has five anchor department stores (Sears, JCPenney, Nordstrom, Macy's, and Lord & Taylor) and over 200 specialty stores. It includes a 14-screen AMC Theatres. The mall is located in the Town Center area of the city and attracts shoppers from surrounding counties in Maryland.HistoryArchitect Frank Gehry designed The Rouse Company Columbia exhibit building, and was initially selected to design the neighboring mall centerpiece. Gehry was later rejected by Rouse for lack of experience, and the firm of Cope, Linder, & Walmsley was contracted for the project. The Mall opened in 1971 with two major anchor stores: Hochschild Kohn's (which was replaced by Hecht's in the mid-1970s) and Woodward & Lothrop (a.k.a. Woodies, which closed in late 1995 and was replaced by JCPenney in July 1996), as well as a McCrory's and Lerner's, which were minor anchors. Howard Research and Development was probed shortly after opening for purchasing bulk energy contracts on electricity while charging market rates to tenants.

  • I've been shopping here for years. With a wide variety of shops, restaurants, and entertainment options people of all ages can enjoy their time here. It is fairly easy to navigate, which is convenient. The parking lot is very big, but can get full on a busy day like Saturdays, so plan accordingly. Overall, Columbia Mall is one of the best malls I've been to in the DC-Baltimore metropolitan area.
  • This is my first time here. Wide variety shops, foods, fun everything. Pretty big clean and nice✅parking big and easy ✅ I really like this mall. I would like to spend more time here. Kids area is really nice✅
  • Cheesecake Factory poor experience 25 minutes for a table on a Tuesday afternoon we didn't factor Graduation crowds. Our party of 4 we took the celebrity of reviewing the menu in advance while we waited for our table. It still took quite a while to receive our selections. Then our preteen hamburger was prepared wrong they had to fix her another one. We were all done before her burger came out. The manager appeased her with salad and fries Items that she was not interested in. The manager refused to adjust the bill he only wanted to offer up a complimentary slice of cheesecake. Didn't really want that either. procedure so we would know exactly what we want it we got a tablespoon You
  • One of the largest and busiest malls in Maryland. Nice-looking and well-maintained. Shops for pretty much everything you could need. Kind of a confusing layout. Doors open to all comers, and sometimes that means some seedy people.
  • Clean, well maintained shopping mall with a good selection of stores and restaurants. This mall is still very vibrant and hasn't fallen into neglect and decay like many malls.
