Priam Vineyards, Colchester

3.5
#6 of 7 in Wineries in Mystic Country
Winery / Vineyard Food & Drink
Priam Vineyards was founded in 1998 in Colchester, CT by Gloria Priam and a former business partner, opening the winery in April of 2003. In 2010 the winery completed a solar panel installation making it the first winery in New England to be completely solar powered.

The winery has won numerous International wine medals, producing wines in the style of Northern France and Germany. Priam Vineyards’ 40 acre farm sits in the Salmon River Watershed, with 23 acres of vineyard where they practice sustainable agriculture and energy. They grow classic European varietals: Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Gewurztraminer, Chardonnay, Riesling, Muscat, and Merlot as well as American hybrids: Cayuga and St. Croix. The rich gravelly soil, sloping hillside and constant breeze provide the perfect climate for these varietals.

  • Great stop on the wine trail. The rose was our favorite....ripe sweet cantaloupe flavor. Something for every taste. Can't wait for the new area to open!!! Beautiful venue for special events.  more »
  • Was not expecting the wines to be as good as they were and was pleasantly surprised. They have done some renovations, with are almost complete, and give them needed space inside. The people there know...  more »
  • This vineyard is nice but kind of pricey to taste 4 it's $10 but you can keep the glass. It has a nice yard and seems to be dog friendly.  more »

  • Absolutely love the staff, the wine, and the company! The RosĂ© is the best in my opinion, it really does taste like a jolly rancher. The seating outside is cute, and the atmosphere is so relaxing!
  • Great experience at Priam. Cozy tasting room and very friendly staff complemented the incredible wine selection. Three different tasting options (4, 6, or 8 wines). Spring for the 8 wines - they are all wonderful. Each is unique and some were spectacular (I don't usually drink whites, but my wife wanted to try the 2 year oak Chardonnay. It was amazing). We visisted on a cold December day, wish we had come in warmer weather. The tasting room is in a quaint lodge and the property is very pleasant and scenic. Great winery.
  • Decent. Nice area, gravel driveway. Wines are ok, mostly sweet ones. Merlot, only bottles.
  • Staff is always awesome. Visit there atleat once a year
  • Overall wine and atmosphere were casual and enjoyable. Inside was small and meant really only for tasting at the wine bar. Outside had a nice cozy patio to enjoy with a cover and picnic tables on the hills of the vineyard if you want a little more sun. Wine tasting gives you three options to choose from allowing you to try a few to all wines they have. (Don't forget to check out the cheese far on your way in as well, on Fri - Sat)
