Old Trail Town, Cody

4.5
See what the stomping grounds of Buffalo Bill Cody and Gen. Custer looked like at Old Trail Town, a reconstructed Old West setting. Although it appears the area was suddenly abandoned, the town was carefully constructed in the 1960s using antique materials collected from the region. Visit the memorial to legendary mountain man Liver-Eating Johnson, and explore the log cabin that belonged to Curly, a Crow Native American scout. Explore the other cabinlike buildings, which are decorated with artifacts to resemble town staples, such as a general store, living quarters, and a school room. A small fee gets you access to the grounds for a self-guided. Arrange your visit to Old Trail Town and discover more family-friendly attractions in Cody using our Cody journey planner .

  • I went with a private group, so all of the buildings were closed except for the bar. We were a photo group and the old wagons and buildings were great to photograph.  more »
  • On your way to Yellowstone? Old Trail Town is on the way and is great fun and very historic. Lots of artifacts and old frontier cabins. Worth the visit!  more »
  • I must admit now that we did not actually take a look around the whole place because the first couple of minutes was enough to see what a dump this place was.  more »

  • Neat lil spot. Walking trail with historical markers
  • Great historical stop. Just like 1880 town in S.D., these are buildings mostly brought here from other places. Hole in the Wall saloon...WOW. My girls loved it and so did mom/dad. So much to see in the way of artifacts, layouts, etc. Will stop again.
  • I definitely recommend this place. We were traveling from Yellowstone's east gate and wanted something fun to do in Cody. We had seen this place from the road and decided to check it out. The price was reasonable and they gave us a military discount. The pictures at this place all but take themselves. It's so easy to take pictures you'll love to have for years. Not only is the town picturesque, but you have the opportunity to learn so much about the real old west. It made me love Wyoming even more than I already do!
  • We enjoyed touring this little western town. There is lots of interesting history and artifacts. We had a 5 year old with us and she loved trying to lasso the bull horns. I would recommend this to anyone visiting the Cody Wyoming area.
  • Very interesting to learn more about the old west way of life and see the actual buildings that the people lived in back in the 1800's. These buildings were taken apart from nearby locations, moved and reconstructed. Tons of artifacts on display that were really cool! It is a must see when visiting Cody, WY.
