We went there hoping to get learn more about Indians and their lives and their history, but this place did not meet at all our expectations. The Museum is very small, and takes maybe 20 minutes to go through. Nicely designed, but very little content. Then you can walk a boardwalk through nature on a wooden bridge. Takes maybe a half hour to go. There are quite a few infoskyltar about what you might see, but unless one is fanatically interested in different trees and mosses so you will not be having so much fun. Any animal life we saw not the smoke of. Roughly in the Middle, there is a rest area where they sell knickknacks. $10 for adults, $7.5 for 5-18 years, or a family ticket for $30. The Museum is located in the Everglades swamp land near Interstate 75 as it takes across from West Coast to East Coast (Naples to Fort Lauderdale/Miami), but there has been no passing, it's not worth it to go there. Maybe if they have any events on that day. Check out their calendar online
We were staying at a campground on HWY 80 for several days on our way home from the Keys and made a day trip to the museum. Having grown up in FL we have had an interest in the Seminole history and my... more »
Il museo non si trova su nessun classico itinerario turistico attraverso la Florida: occorre pertanto fare una deviazione ad hoc per raggiungerlo. Il posteggio si trova dalla parte opposta alla strada... more »The Museum is not located on any classic tourist route through Florida should take a detour to reach it. The car park is located across the street from the Museum consists of a modern and well cared for. Definitely laudable effort to raise awareness of the culture of the natives of this part of america. Unfortunately the object number, garments, jewelry survivors is immense: most of the early 19th century. The Museum halls are home to several scenes reconstructed in various stages of everyday life. Outside you can go along a wooden boardwalk approx 1.5 km through the swamp that explain the flora and fauna: there are no degrees option to spot animals outside of a few Heron. Programmed by 2 to 3 hours for your visit to the Museum and walk in the swamp
Blown away on how awesome this place was. Was expecting something on the hokey side. Nope. Awesome. Its a long way out in the swamp though and not anywherw to eat so pack some snacks
I love everything related to the Everglades and the Seminole Tribe. If the smoldering fire in front of the museum doesn't put you in the right frame of mind, then nothing will. This place was much more than I expected. Absolutely worth your time to visit. Be sure to visit the people in the village.
Awesome realtime museum. Great learning experience of the culture. Live dancing and great cultural artifacts for purchase
Excellent museum with displays inside and a walk around the exterior where from time to time there are activities and demonstrations of tribal life at a mock village. Too bad there is lots of construction and road noise to ruin the ambiance of the one-mile boardwalk through a cypress swamp. The lighting is very dim in the museum so if you need reading glasses bring them to read the display signs that have pretty small print. Plenty of free parking. Located in a remote area of Hendry county but worth the drive.
Uber-cool experience for a northern guy who had never been on a reservation before. My son and I learned a ton about the Seminole history, life and survival in a changing Florida. This is worth he drive from Ft. Lauderdale or Miami.
