The Cleveland Museum of Art, Cleveland

#2 of 19 in Museums in Cleveland
World-renowned for its Asian and Egyptian collections, The Cleveland Museum of Art remains free to the public, as it was originally intended to be, through one of the largest endowments in the country. The museum has more than 40,000 works permanently on display, along with exceptional traveling exhibitions. The artwork inside the museum and the museum's architecture are often equally enticing for visitors. The building was built in the Beaux Arts style using neoclassical white marble, which has stood the test of time over the last hundred years. The museum and Wade Park, which surrounds it, are currently on the National Register of Historic Places. Plan my Cleveland trip by asking Inpirock to come up with tips and suggestions.

  • I think that it is one of the best options to visit Cleveland and refuge from the cold. It contains an extraordinary collection of pieces from various periods and countries, some of great beauty and importance. The permanent halls are free and the temporary exhibitions have a cost. Do not miss it!

  • The Cleveland Museum of Art (CMA) houses great art from a vast variety of places/times with a special concentration on Asian art. CMA also houses a yummy restaurant and cafeteria operated by Doug Katz...  more »

  • The museum was incredible! We had driven up from Louisville, KY for the long Labor Day weekend and decided to visit while we were here. One of the best decisions of the weekend. The museum well thought out by era and is truly more than a person can view in one day, especially if you like to truly appreciate different pieces as you view them. The museum is free, but parking isn’t (make it easy park in the parking building , it’s a small price to pay and the museum is worth it). The Rodin is outside. Worth the trip! Family friendly!
  • This museum is awesome. It would be worth a good amount of money for admission to the museum, but it’s free! I can’t say enough good things about this well rounded collection of art. You can see most of it in a few hours but can spend two days to really look at everything and enjoy it all. What a treasure Cleveland has and I hope everyone takes advantage of this amazing place!
  • This is a very spacious museum. There is a wide assortment of different eras of art and different styles. There is also a diverse amount of artists featured at the museum. The style of the museum gives off a good energy. its minimalist design makes the art seem more important. The one thing i dislike is the modern art section. Some of the pieces are well made, but others just seem lazy. There is one piece that looks like they just stole other artist's work. It is just lazily done. Other than some of the modern art it is a great museum.
  • You can tell a lot of work and love goes into this building. It is well taken care of and updated. The inside is very classy. I certainly wouldn't mind if my taxes went to more projects like that. The exhibits are great and the voting exhibits are big crowd draws because they are always very good. Unless you are a professional walker, you can easily send two days here to take it all in.
  • Great museum worth the visit. Collections are well organized and flow is superb. Recommend that one checks the availability of the visiting exhibitions in advance to buy tickets - if interested, but the permanent collection is worth the trip and it's free. We have four kids ten and under who enjoy art museums without tech. They've definitely put effort into the tech side but the app was a bit glitchy and we enjoyed walking through and reading the material. After four hours we agreed it would be worth a return trip. Dining selection in Cafe was good but badly organized for the space.
