The Cleveland Museum of Art, Cleveland

4.9
#2 of 12 in Museums in Cleveland
World-renowned for its Asian and Egyptian collections, The Cleveland Museum of Art remains free to the public, as it was originally intended to be, through one of the largest endowments in the country. The museum has more than 40,000 works permanently on display, along with exceptional traveling exhibitions. The artwork inside the museum and the museum's architecture are often equally enticing for visitors. The building was built in the Beaux Arts style using neoclassical white marble, which has stood the test of time over the last hundred years. The museum and Wade Park, which surrounds it, are currently on the National Register of Historic Places. Plan my Cleveland trip by asking Inpirock to come up with tips and suggestions.

  • This place cannot be missed. I made the mistake of coming here later in the day and still felt rushed to see all the artifacts in every exhibit. The free public tours are amazing. The special Jazz exhibit they had there when I went was absolutely enchanting. The museum is extremely reasonably priced considering the permanent exhibition is free and the special exhibition is only a couple dollars but it's very worth the small entrance fee. The audio guide is extremely descriptive and the be sure to spend some time checking out the modern interactive exhibits. They are absolutely fascinating and the virtual pottery wheel is amazing. I spent 6 hours here and felt it was barely enough time to see everything. Make sure to come early.
  • The Museum of Art is probably one of my all-time favorite destinations in Cleveland. I've been there so many times and will continue to go there just as much! The museum is huge so you can easily spend hours in there without even realizing. The museum itself is beautiful and the architecture on the inside definitely adds to the overall experience. In the summer, I would definitely recommend walking outside and seeing the things around the museum for an added great experience.
  • This museum is massive! It’s extremely reasonably priced and the space is incredibly impressive. The openness and design of the building makes it seem like multiple museums in one. The lighting in the main hall makes for a perfect photo op as well. It was relatively empty when I went early on a Saturday so I wouldn’t expect it to be too crowded on any other day. Worth the visit!
  • I spent two hours here and didn't even see half of the museum! If you love varying types of art, this is the place to be. They have a lot of interesting exhibits. They cost extra but will definitely be worth it. I'll have to take another trip here to see the rest of it. It will probably take an entire day.
  • Stunning collections. It is impossible to see everything in one day. I would recommend multiple visits. The Cafe is nice with salad, sandwiches and hot food. It makes staying all day that much easier. Be prepared to pay for parking. The museum parking garage is not free.

Most of Cleveland's hotels are located in downtown, though you can also plenty of comfortable and affordable rooms in the city's outlying neighborhoods. Many downtown hotels offer discounted weekend rates and deals that include tickets to some of the city's major attractions, but if you prefer to stay away from the central part of town, consider the neighborhoods east of the Cuyahoga River.
