  • Nothing but everything. Magical vibes about the place. Music was perfect ( piped throughout the building shells). We were expecting more.  more »
  • The whole time I was there, I didn't see another soul, but having read up on the Farm, I was under no illusion as to how important this place is.  more »
  • This place is generally regarded as the birthplace of delta blues. So, it is a collection of ramshackle roadside barns and shacks plus an abandoned has station but thee is information there as well as...  more »
  • The Dockery Plantation is widely known as the birthplace of the Blues. The owner of the post-bellum cotton plantation was well known for being kind to the sharecroppers and encouraging of musical pursuits. Today, the plantation is quiet, but the sense of history is apparent. It is a must-visit if in the Delta.
  • Good history, quirky sraff
  • This is such a wonderful historic place. If you haven't traveled there and walked the grounds you should put that on your to do list.
  • Tons of history surrounds this place. Glad I stopped by to take some pics, read the MS Blues Trail Marker, etc. I like the thing they have to listen to music while you are there. Fun place.
  • DO NOT MISS THIS STOP! (especially if the blues is something you love...) You can not get more of the essence of the Delta than driving the road between Ruleville and Cleveland, Mississippi, and pulling in to Dockery Farms. The flat landscape, the long vistas, the lush trees and the long rows of crops you pass: this is where the blues, now known everywhere, had early beginnings. There is a former filling station -- pull up and read the historic markers and push the button for some music to your ears. Nearby are other outbuildings, a mule barn, and the remains of the front porch of the old commissary (to your left) and a marvelous sign honoring the owning family. This is a wayside stop, a perfect little moment -- not a Disneyland. Remember, this is still a fenced working farm, too, so respect the boundaries. And, by the way, the Roseanne Cash concert in June was held right here and it was fabulous (with local blues groups, too)! Hope there is a concert every year!
