Sand Key Park, Clearwater

Categories: Nature & Parks
Inspirock Rating:
4.5/5 based on 1,000+ reviews on the web
As the home of an artificial reef, Sand Key Park provides opportunities for scuba diving and fishing. Manmade materials are placed in the water and marine life takes over--barnacles and algae attach themselves and turn the underwater area into a haven for fish and other animals. A salt marsh further enhances the experience, bringing in herons, pelicans, roseate spoonbills and other birds to the area. Look for seashells in the shallow waters, which abound in this environment. You can reserve a picnic shelter with a grill, and there's a playground at the site. Check out kayak and bicycle rental options for exploring the sea or trails along the coast. Dog owners can take their furry friends to a special designated park for dogs. • We spent 2 weeks in Clearwater and spent some time at the park on the beach and I fished off the rocks. Beautiful views and nice area
  • We went down to enjoy the fame of this beach which is very beautiful but who really is too quiet. It is a very large parking overlooking the beach without shops and residential. If you want absolute tranquillity no worries or Pier 60 will give you satisfaction with civilization and more.

  • The beach is very good and not too crowded , if you compare it with Clearwater beach, but the sand is better in Clearwater beach, which is located across the bridge. Lot's of parking spaces in the par...  read more »
  • Love that parking is no hastle $5! The beach was nice lots of shells. We had no trouble finding a spot to setup and we did not get there early. There was a volleyball court as well as a food truck! This beach did have a lifeguard. We would definitely come back to this beach. The overall experience was great.
  • This is the best beach for tourist, the parking is very inexpensive, there is the food trailer, and the beach is gorgeous. Win win for any visitor! Not to mention you might get to watch a wedding, this is a very popular spot for beach weddings.
  • I tend to go early so parking is never a hassle, honestly when I leave around lunch time there are still lots of parking available. Beach is super nice and tends to be fairly calm. Way better than the over crowded Clearwater Beach just up the road.
  • This was a nice little park at the beach. My family and I only visited for the beach and didn't experience the other park offerings. The beach was relatively unoccupied and parking in the parks lot was only $5 all day. There was a "bath house" that offered restrooms and changing space and there were outdoor showers that we were able to use to wash off the sand at the end of our day of hanging at the beach. The mosquitoes were relentless so be prepared and/or bring some waterproof repellent. It was also very windy on the day we went but this likely was just the weather for the day.
  • It had nice clean restrooms. A great place to find shells. It is not soft white sand. The sand was full of crushed shells that made it uncomfortable to walk on. There are nicer beaches in the area.
