Sand Key Park, Clearwater

(4.5/5 based on 1,100+ reviews on the web)
As the home of an artificial reef, Sand Key Park provides opportunities for scuba diving and fishing. Manmade materials are placed in the water and marine life takes over--barnacles and algae attach themselves and turn the underwater area into a haven for fish and other animals. A salt marsh further enhances the experience, bringing in herons, pelicans, roseate spoonbills and other birds to the area. Look for seashells in the shallow waters, which abound in this environment. You can reserve a picnic shelter with a grill, and there's a playground at the site. Check out kayak and bicycle rental options for exploring the sea or trails along the coast. Dog owners can take their furry friends to a special designated park for dogs. Our Clearwater itinerary builder makes visiting Sand Key Park and other Clearwater attractions simple, and helps you make a travel plan personal to you.

  • We went here our second day in Clearwater and it was much less busy and much more relaxing than the main beach area by the pier. Also, parking was $5 for the whole day which was awesome.  more »

  • my family loves this park. A true hidden gem . it has two playgrounds for kids, one with a pirate ship! beautiful wooded area very clean bathrooms. highly recommend!
  • Love that parking is no hastle $5! The beach was nice lots of shells. We had no trouble finding a spot to setup and we did not get there early. There was a volleyball court as well as a food truck! This beach did have a lifeguard. We would definitely come back to this beach. The overall experience was great.
  • Loved this beach. Water was warm and less people than in Clearwater. Park Ranger was nice and helpful. Lots of parking and lots of space on the beach. Awesome sea shells here too! I swam for hours here!
  • Ok small park. Nature trail is ok but not much to see or enjoy. There is a fee for parking though.
  • Beautiful place best place to get away from tourist go on weekdays though. The sand is beautiful. Some times you'll find shells.. but this is not a shell beach. They have a playground which is cool, and dog park but it is not near the beach.
