  • How the cliff dwellers lived on a cliff is amazing to me. It is very far from the overlook but if you do the trail you can get really close.  more »
  • Accessible only with local tour. Well worth to visit! Off the beaten path...Hire a local jeep tour and enjoy!  more »
  • On our first visit to Canyon De Chelly a few years back, we joined a Navajo guided tour (for 4 hours) which included seeing the White House Ruins up close. It was a great experience. This time we only...  more »

  • Good place to stop and get some great views of the Canyon and the house. My visit to the Canyon de Chelly was one of the highlights if my Arizona trip. The views of the canyon are breathtaking. Every overlook gives you a different feel of the canyon. Maybe some day I will go back and tour the bottom of the canyon and look up these beautiful walls.
  • If possible, do the trail down to the ruins. It is a nice grade and a marvel of small scale human engineering. You pass through two tunnels to descend to the bottom. The valley floor is amazing. The ruins are spectacular up close.
  • Take the trail down. It’s a nice hike into a lovely canyon and it’s totally worth seeing the ruins up close!
  • Spectacular panoramic views of Canyon de Chelly. The relatively easy to moderate switch-back trail down into the canyon to the White House ruins is, literally and metaphorically, breathtaking. Every turn reveals another beautiful aspect of the land. Towards the end, you pass through a short tunnel, you emerge into what seems a Shangri-La. The fertile canyon bottomlands are filled with yellow flamed cottonwoods (in Autumn), Navaho farmers growing crops, horses idyllically grazing in the golden light. The White House ruins are fenced off for protection, but still afford excellent views and many stunning photographic perspectives. If you get there in the late afternoon, around 3 to 4, the sun illuminates the entire cliff with all of its magnificent weathered striations over the ruins. It's a sublime and sacred, but abandoned, world. Take your time there.
  • Wonderful overlook, especially in the late afternoon evening, and a great trailhead.
