Saltwater Pony Tours, Chincoteague Island

Could not have asked for more! Captain Bill was amazing! Very informative and will to go the extra mile! The ponies put up an quite the fight to stay free!

Visited the island late July 2018 and took this tour. Having read the Marguerite Henry books as a child, I was excited to finally get to see the ponies! I could not attend the swim over, but had made a reservation for a boat tour of the swim back on Friday. Communication with me was good regarding departure time. However, when the two boats in our party arrived at the viewing site, they had no plan for where we were to anchor. Other tour lines were already there and anchored. Also, other tour lines had snacks and beverages - we were offered beverages only (I had already brought my own). On the return trip, they swung into a little inlet so we could see the ponies up close - which was nice. We also stopped to observe some dolphins on the return trip to the marina. If I were to do this again, I would check out some other tours. A "regular" boat tour is priced at $45; the pony swim back tour was $125. I didn't mind the inflated price so much, but will be more careful next time where my money is spent. UPDATE: Capt. Henry has contacted me NUMEROUS times demanding that I take down these comments, saying that they hurt his business.

This will become a vacation tradition! Captain Gene was not only knowledgeable about the area and wildlife but he was sweet, funny, and great with the kids. The boat was very comfortable and spacious. Captain Gene was able to get us INCREDIBLY close to the wild ponies. We even got to see a bunch of foals! The weather was questionable during our stay and we requested a reschedule. Even though the weather turned out fine on the day we were originally supposed to go, the owner worked with us to get us a different tour date without any issues. Everyone who works there was wonderful! I cannot recommend this company enough!

Awesome experience. Comfortable boat with cushioned seating and ample space to stretch and relax. Beautiful scenery. Saw multiple pods of dolphins performing synchronized swimming. The evening cruise was perfect for photography as well as watching the sun set. Saw multiple herds of the famous Chincoteague ponies while receiving an interesting history lesson about them from the very personable captain. Much preferable to the larger tour boats.

Captain Henry went above and beyond yesterday to get us in position to see the ponies coming back from the corral's. We got an unexpected bonus when a few of them decided to take their own way back...walking on the sandbars right next to our boat! Couldn't ask for a better first time experience!
