  • Great tour. Captain Dan provided an excellent tour of the island. Took the time to answer everyone's questions. We were lucky enough to see dolphins, wild ponies, and a bald eagle on our tour.
  • Had a great boat trip. Captain Dan was great he talked about the island showed us everything and we even saw dolphins
  • What a fantastic time we had on our tours with Capt Dan and his dad, Ray. Both gentlemen are very charismatic and knowledgeable about the area. They find out what your specific interests are and do their best to accommodate your wishes. On our first cruise we asked to see Courtney's Boy's band and/or the 2013 buy backs. Captain Ray found Courtney's Boy's band and got us very close to shore. The horses were on the very edge of the water and walked all around posing for us. The next day Capt Dan took us out and I asked to see the 2013's. Boy did he deliver!! They weren't on the beach but they were behind a hill. He pulled us up close to shore and all of sudden they started parading out to the beach, one by one. It was fantastic! Third trip we requested to see ponies we hadn't been up close and personal with yet and he found Foxy Asset. We had 3 fantastic trips seeing many ponies, looking at gorgeous scenery and enjoying wonderful company!
  • My boyfriend and I took an Around the Island Tour with Captain Dan on July 8th for his 9am time slot, and we absolutely loved it! Not only were we able to see a ton of ponies, and up close too, we were able to see a lot of other wildlife native to the area and hear all about the history of Assateague and Chincoteague from Captain Dan. He is very knowledgeable of the area and totally willing to answer any questions you have while always providing a background story to answer them. He has all of this great knowledge because he grew up in the area and used to be a commercial fisherman in Chincoteague. Now, the island tours are his business, which is great because he is perfect for the job. He makes sure everyone feels safe on the boat, takes time to let you take pictures (and makes an effort to get as close as he can with the boat to insure a good picture), and communicates with his passengers in a kind manner. He would ask if we wanted to move on to another portion of the island or not, if he can move the boat some to get closer, if we wanted to hear more about the island, and so on. He is also really easy to talk to, which makes for a relaxing and fun boat trip. In addition, his wife was really kind when setting up a tour time on the phone and helpful when explaining where to park and find the tour on the day of. The boat: Really spacious and comfortable because Captain Dan takes on a maximum of 6 passengers and there is more than enough cushy seating for everyone as well as space to move about to take a better picture Sites we were able to see: Chincoteague and Assateague Island Coastlines, Assateague Island Light House, local oyster beds, local housing and docks (which all have their own history and story) Wildlife: Ponies (four different sets/herds), a dolphin, a bald eagle, and blue and white herons We were also on the lookout for sea turtles which can occasionally be spotted (but sadly we did not see) Parking: Free town parking (which is also right by all the cute town shops and library) Location for pick up and drop off: 2 minute walk from the town parking and right off of a cute town park (we drove from our vacation stay in Ocean City, it was a really easy and scenic drive) Bathrooms: Town municipal bathrooms are a 1 minute walk from parking and from the start of the tour, and Captain Dan also has an enclosed bathroom he can set up on the boat Other items provided on the tour: Binoculars, pony genealogy binder, a list of other local places to see or learn about the Chincoteague ponies Overall, I totally recommend this local business for your tour of the islands!
  • Best money I have spent in a long while. Tour was great and the guide was awesome. Got to see ponies but would have written an A+ review without seeing the ponies....
