Found this to be a fun stop, photo ops everywhere. Kids loved it and did some gold panning. Gift shop had great selection. Quite a good time and we will be stopping again.
I'm not sure I'd make a special trip to Chicken, although I know a lot of people do. It's a bit out of the way unless you are going to pan for gold, visit Eagle or Dawson City. However, if you happen ... read more »
No gas. They were trying to close the shop on us soon after we got inside. I did manage to grab the book "Tisha," before they shooed us out the door. I asked about the advertised tour of the teachers cabin and schoolhouse area and was rewarded with a cold glare. They seemed disinclined to waste time on two wayfarers. He did quickly point out which building was the schoolhouse and Mr. Strong's cabin before sighing from the effort, settling into a chair, and ignoring us again. I was impressed with the area, however.
A great little spot in the middle of nowhere. Literally. This place is about 90 minutes to the boarder crossing. The owners are friendly and their food is fresh. The double espresso shot is large and worth every penny of $2.50. If you stay the night you get free wifi for $16. Not a bad deal.
This is a great RV park and when you learn the story behind it, you'll marvel at the owners' tenacity to build such a quality place in this northern wilderness. Okay, yes it is a gravel parking lot, but this lot was originally an open gold mine. The café offers sandwiches and drinks to rival any urban coffee shop. High quality, hand made gifts, and souvenirs are in abundance in the gift shop. Try your hand at gold panning on site or schedule a trip to one of the owner's mining claims. Tours are available for the historical dredge located on the grounds. From the park you can hike, bike, or drive to check out the rest of Chicken.
