  • This is a small art museum but it has pieces from all over the world and different time eras ( some modern and some centuries old). Thus, a little Asian art, a little European art, a little African ar...  more »
  • A glimpse of an institution in Chicago. Small museum in (beautiful) University area, with collections on display. Unfortunately some Italian masterpieces that were listed on the site were not currently available (such as Luca Cambiaso), but the visit was still interesting and not too strenuous. Perhaps the best bits are the Frank Lloyd Wright furniture from nearby Robie House and a large canvas by Rothko. You visit in less than an hour and it's free.

  • This museum is cool as hell. There's some unique art and it's situations right on U Chicago's campus in one of Chicago's most notable neighborhoods, Hyde Park. I went to a free charcoal figure drawing class there like a week ago, and they gave out free pizza.
  • For a small university museum, they do have some interesting pieces including a Rothko
  • This is a great little museum on the University of Chicago campus, and the best part: IT'S FREE!!! And seriously, for being a free museum, it has a great collection. They have work by Joseph Albers, Mark Rothko, Frank Lloyd Wright, and Louis Sullivan (just to name a few). They also have great temporary exhibitions that are always well curated, and they always have interesting things in their lobby. They have artists paint a huge wall in their lobby or create a site-specific installation, and they never fail to impress.
  • The Smarts collections are small, but the quality here is remarkable. There is a little something for everyone. Very enjoyable way to spend a few hours and make a redneck like me feel cultured.
  • Love it
