  • Wonderful experience yesterday. The bells where playing the Game of Thrones Theme! At first couldn't work out what it was as didn't expect it. Amazing
  • Probably both... Superb construction majestic at the heart of the campus green and trees of the University of Chicago, which opened in 1928. Not far from the neighborhood of the Obama family, where their street is blocked by the secret service with any huge blocks in concrete, behind which are parked 4/4 of the CIA, we could still visit this monument freely, as part of a tour by bus in South Chicago. The Interior of the building is stunning and the ground waste slab could almost make think of our old European Churches. In the Bell Tower, a carillon of 72 bells, which is played twice a day weekdays, noon and 5 pm. There are also sometimes listen to concerts of this chime. The day of our visit, some kids were running and playing hide and seek in the nave, shouting, and this seemed not at all disturb the accompanying... I was taught very young in a church, we respected this place in whispers and quietly moving... Perhaps a European rule that surprises in the USA? The pious Rockefeller family which funded the construction of this church would probably was also shocked by seeing such a sight... Everything is lost, even the respect of a place of meditation.

  • The John D. Rockefeller Memorial Chapel is right next door to the Oriental Institute Museum and is worth a quick visit. It was built in 1910 by its namesake and founder of the University of Chicago. T...  more »

  • Beautiful building and great event venue.
  • Rockefeller is a beautiful building which hosts one of the largest carillons in the world. The tower which hosts the carillon is the tallest on the uchicago campus, and tours to see the view from the top (along with the carillon bells and the keyboard) run leave from inside the front doors at 11:30 am or 4:30 pm on weekdays and 12:15 pm on Sundays. The rest of the chapel is well worth a visit as well!
  • Beautiful structure holding fascinating events and interviews.
  • On a campus overflowing with Gothic buildings, this one stands out. Tower tours on weekdays.
  • Noam Chomsky visit to Rockefeller Chapel
