Where to stay in Chicago

The Midwest's major center for business conventions, Chicago boasts many affordable places to stay, with most hotels located around the airport and the city's central business district. To discover the city from a comfortable base within walking distance of most tourist attractions, aim for one of the big chain hotels in the downtown area. If you're traveling on a limited budget and wish to get a deeper sense of Chicago's many diverse neighborhoods, consider staying away from the pricey city center and explore suburbs on a commuter train line for easy city access.

  • Put running/walking/biking/rollerblading/dancing/longboarding or whatever you want to do on Lakefront Trail on the top of your list when you come to Chicago! You'll get fabulous Chicago skyline views ...  more »
  • We started out our day by walking along the shore, sipping coffee from a nearby shop. What a view! Very friendly people and many walkers who were just as happy as we were.  more »
  • We rode out in the morning and the bike trail was not congested, and made for a great bike ride. Later in the afternoon it was a little difficult to ride with lots of people. Still a beautiful locatio...  more »

  • Absolutely gorgeous view of Chicago's skyline. I instantly wanted to change into my work out clothes and go for a run along the path. Although....after some observation, I realized that wouldn't have been a great choice on the day I visited. The current on the lake was pretty intense and water was constantly gushing over the walkway. I'm almost positive it would have knocked me over. So, just a heads up! Be careful on those windy days because you may get a nice unexpected shower. I did enjoy the nice change of pace from the high rise buildings of Mag Mile! I do wish that there was more to do around the Lakefront Path. However; if you're just looking for a place with a great view, a nice place to go for a run, or just relax by the water then this is definitely the spot for you!
  • Death trap. Around Fullerton there is a fence across the path. Northbound, if you can't brake in time and attempt to veer off, they also put up a metal barrier which will wipe you out resulting in the injury seen. Chicago, once again, improving things in the worst possible way! Avoid this section!
  • Great place to bike, rollerskate, walk and run. Friendly people and great view.
  • A nice place to walk or ride your bicycle. Its an awesome experience with the nice cool breeze blowing on your face. Its an amazing experience in this windy city.
  • The lakefront trail is a very convenient way to feel like you're escaping the city. The trail stretches for many miles, going through beaches, parks, and lots of amazing scenery. It's great for walking, biking, and skateboarding too.
