  • Can you really say you've been to Chicago without stopping to take a pic by "the bean?" It was one of the first things I did and I returned to this landmark several times, as its simply a great place ...  more »
  • The Bean was definitely a place that everyone needs to visit while in Chicago since it's so iconic. It is a pretty busy place, but still offered plenty of photo opportunity for just my husband and mys...  more »
  • Beautiful sculpture! beautiful effect: simple clean shape but with a truly extraordinary craftsmanship in execution: do you see a solder point! A selfie is a must

  • Like many others, was looking forward to this. There's not much to expect though, you go there, marvel at the structure and have fun with the reflections. It is very popular though so expect crowds. It's a must though for first-time visitors to Chicago. Visited September 2015
  • Cool structure. People watching was amazing! The structure needs to be cleaned more often because the pigeon feces was disgusting. The reflections are so cool.
  • Just go here. Try to go on a nice weather day, but if it's not nice, just go anyway. It's one of the most engaging and fascinating public pieces of art you will ever encounter. Take a bunch of photos, then just people watch. See how many people of all nationalities are having fun. It's magical!
  • This was just cool. I'm glad we made time for "the bean". Much bigger than I had pictured. It was really cool to go under it and look up. I almost missed that. So many people were there taking pictures that it was a bit crowded but I was one of them so I can't complain.
  • I visited this questionable location on Tuesday, May 16. My experience was harrowing, to say the least. When I first arrived at Millennium Park with my pet dog Joe, the police in the park immediately approached me to tell me that the dog wasn't actually mine, and belonged to a woman named Marie, who accompanied them. Although I didn't remember getting the dog myself, I was certain it was mine. Nevertheless, I handed it over. Thankfully I was not arrested as this "Marie" didn't press charges. When I reached the Cloud Gate, the figure immediately morphed from its iconic and disturbing "bean of the Gods" shape, and began to take the form of one of my worst fears: My Mother. So, here was this gigantic mirror in the shape of my mother, quite robust, yelling at me about how I failed to clean my room and bury my cat, pointing a large liquid metal finger at me that looked like the T-1000's at the end of Terminator 2. The thing then took the shape of an enormous copy of Trump Tower, and began jumping up and down while releasing a terrible shriek that sounded like a strangled crow. Following this display of insanity, the sculpture morphed back to its bean shape, and proceeded to sigh quite loudly. I looked around me and interestingly no one else acted like anything was off. Terrifying experience, wouldn't repeat again.

Where to stay in Chicago

The Midwest's major center for business conventions, Chicago boasts many affordable places to stay, with most hotels located around the airport and the city's central business district. To discover the city from a comfortable base within walking distance of most tourist attractions, aim for one of the big chain hotels in the downtown area. If you're traveling on a limited budget and wish to get a deeper sense of Chicago's many diverse neighborhoods, consider staying away from the pricey city center and explore suburbs on a commuter train line for easy city access.
