Chicago Cultural Center, Chicago
(4.6/5 based on 2,000+ reviews on the web)
A landmark building and the nation’s first free municipal cultural center, Chicago Cultural Center hosts music, dance and theater performances, films, lectures, art exhibits, and family events throughout the year. Completed in 1897, the building was designed in a generally neoclassical style with Italian Renaissance elements. The cultural center offers much to admire, including Roman arches, Cosmati walls, grand marble staircases, and a richly decorated Civil War memorial. Don’t miss Preston Bradley Hall, which features glass mosaics and the largest Tiffany glass dome in the world with approximately 30,000 glass pieces. Check online to see what events are running during your visit. The building also houses a visitor information center, which makes it a great first stop on your Chicago journey. • The old Chicago Library has been preserved. We enjoyed a free concert on a Wednesday. A beautiful building open to the public at no charge.

  • It was amazing wandering around here. I had never went in my 40+ years of living in the area and I hate myself for waiting. It is amazing. Beautiful. Intriguing Chicago history. Go check it out!!!
  • I feel this is a pretty underestimated place. Exhibits at the cultural center are well composed and fun to visit. I also took an excellent architecture tour hosted by the cultural center to the SC Johnson Campus which was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. The whole trip was free including travel, and I learned a lot from it. I would definitely attend more events like these in the future.
  • A wonderful center to visit to partake in the culture. Lovely art inside. Stunning dome on the second floor I would highly advise one see.
  • Lovely displays, free tours at 1:15 on Wednesdays- take advantage of them! Storycorps is in here too. Nice seating area on first floor to take a lunch as well. Staff are informative. Check out every floor! Tip: Best place to use the bathrooms in Chicago without buying anything.
  • This is the best part of Chicago's tourism. Beautiful mosaic work, tons of art exhibits, musical performances, and of course - the Tiffany domes. I got married here, I often eat lunch here, and I love the cross-section of people it brings together.
