A landmark building and the nation’s first free municipal cultural center, Chicago Cultural Center hosts music, dance and theater performances, films, lectures, art exhibits, and family events throughout the year. Completed in 1897, the building was designed in a generally neoclassical style with Italian Renaissance elements. The cultural center offers much to admire, including Roman arches, Cosmati walls, grand marble staircases, and a richly decorated Civil War memorial. Don’t miss Preston Bradley Hall, which features glass mosaics and the largest Tiffany glass dome in the world with approximately 30,000 glass pieces. Check online to see what events are running during your visit. The building also houses a visitor information center, which makes it a great first stop on your Chicago journey. • I historic beauty in Chicago. It used to be the old Chicago Public Library before turning into the cultural center. It is just beautiful to see the architecture inside, including the two beautiful glass domes. The center also has multiple art exhibits and events. The best part is they are all FREE. I always stop by if I am around to see the place as well as to stay cool in the summer and warm in the winter.
  • This place was gorgeous! I have been to Chicago numerous times and a friend took me recently to see the Tiffany Dome and I was SO glad we went. 1) it doesn't cost anything to walk around the building 2) it is truly gorgeous, all areas are fully of astounding opulence and architecture. 3) there is a daily tour, we didn't take it, but I will next time. Definitely a must visit in Chicago!
  • CHS, celebrated 100 years!, at this amazing location on 8-19-16! High Maintenance! Me & the others had a great time, with lots of laughs, smiles....* The service was PROFESSIONAL & RESPECTFUL. I can stare at the beautiful ceiling allll day! May CHS have another amazing event again. Past. Present & Future...* OUR WORLD.
  • Such a beautiful building! All the stained glass and tile mosaics are breathtaking. Everything glitters. One of my favorite places in Chicago, along with the beautiful Tiffany mosaic dome in the Macy's building. Definitely make time to see this place if you love beautiful architecture and/or art. Leave enough time to wonder around with your jaw hanging open. Oh, and it's free!
  • You definitely get what you pay for with the free admission. There are avant garde art displays and surly guards who will watch you like you are a criminal as you soak it in. On the upside the architecture is astounding and you should visit the great Hall upstairs if it is unoccupied.
