One of the largest fountains in the world, Buckingham Fountain was built in 1927. Taking its inspiration from the Latona Fountain at the Palace of Versailles, the attraction features an ornate Rococo style. Designed to represent Lake Michigan, each seahorse that decorates the fountain symbolizes its bordering states. Every hour on the hour for 20 minutes the fountain produces a water display, with the center jets shooting 45.7 m (150 ft) into the air. The fountain also features other colored light shows. • What a beautiful fountain! It, unfortunately, was too early in the season for it to be running but we could only imagine what it looks like. Can't wait to go back in summer and see it.  more »
  • Great place to travel to, nice walk, right by the lake, parking wasn't bad, the water/fountain wasn't on, but it's still great to see.  more »
  • As someone noted already, the fountain is not fountaining at the moment yet still is nice to go because of the surroundings. It’s just parks and more parks with a beautiful view of the skyline. You...  more »

  • Such a beautiful fountain. The park area surrounding it is just as beautiful. I never realized there was a small rose garden before the fountain. Definitely a sight worth seeing, and great backdrop for portraits/photography shoots!
  • This fountain was beautiful and definitely a touristy thing to do. It was big and had a fence around it so you couldn't come too close. Overall a great spot for pictures. I would recommend going if you haven't seen it.
  • I enjoyed spending my time around this massive fountain. It's one of the best water fountain in the states! I was there before the sunset and when it's started getting dark the fountain became stunning with the colorful lights, the classic music playing in the background and the spectacular view of the lake Michigan and the skyscrapers of Chicago. And when it shoots water up in the sky you think it's raining! This is a must visit place in summer time only!
  • The craftsmanship and expertise is self-evident with one of Chicago's most iconic tourist attractions, Buckingham Fountain. The stone and metal work is second to none, and being one of the largest fountains in the world, it sure is a sight to see. Four metal sea horses represent the four states bordering Lake Michigan - Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana and Michigan. Between April and October, there are nightly light shows, with the fountain releasing a blast of water every hour on the hour, accompanied with classical music. In the summer months, there are Rickshaws available around the perimeter of the fountain allowing for leisurely tours of the fountains vicinity. About a 15 minute walk from the nearest L stop, and 10 minutes walk from the metra line.
  • A commemorative fountain with a big pond and huge fountain. Centrally located. Enjoy the fountain sitting from benches and the crowd. A lovely place to spend time. Night time the fountain offers more beautiful views. See the Chicago skyline in the backdrops of the fountain. Washrooms are not clean.
