Categories: Fountains, Landmarks, Tourist Spots
Inspirock Rating:
4.4/5 based on 2,000+ reviews on the web
One of the largest fountains in the world, Buckingham Fountain was built in 1927. Taking its inspiration from the Latona Fountain at the Palace of Versailles, the attraction features an ornate Rococo style. Designed to represent Lake Michigan, each seahorse that decorates the fountain symbolizes its bordering states. Every hour on the hour for 20 minutes the fountain produces a water display, with the center jets shooting 45.7 m (150 ft) into the air. The fountain also features other colored light shows. • This was one location on our visit. I grew up watching Married With Children and this was the opening shot to the television show.
  • A short distance from Millennium Park and Lake Michigan, this fountain is a pure beauty! She is huge and its water jets are impressive! It allows to make very nice photos with the skyline in the background.

  • This was one of my favorite location/site in Chicago. The fountain was beautiful, really a work of art. Very relaxing and the music that was playing in the area was great as well too.
  • Worth seeing. This fountain goes mad with a very high jet for a limited time. So wait here a couple of minutes if you want to see it ! One of the place to go in Chicago, especially to enjoy the seafront
  • Very cool place to visit and see. Everyone I talked to before going to Chicago said its a huge fountain... And indeed it is. Not to fault the fountain by giving it 4 stars instead of 5 but there were like 4 homeless people that were very aggressive in trying to get me to buy some kind of magazine. Again the fountain was very cool, clean, and a short walk from other sights to see as well.
  • There are some places in Chicago that are perfect to go to with anyone, for really any reason. This is one of them. If it's the right season, and the fountain is on, it's a beautiful sight to see the huge spouts of water with the skyline right behind it. Then, just cross the street and you're on lakeshore, or go a little further north and you walk through some of Chicago's green space and end up next to Millennium Park! 10/10 great spot to go to.
  • Cool fountain. Plenty of room all around it (We saw wedding and birthday parties). Birds, flowers, gardens, lights, benches, statues, etc. It's all here. A nice little stop if you're in the area and like that sort of thing.
  • Amazing place to calm own self. Good for walk, spending time with loved ones .Just wonderful place and it seems amazing when the fountain changes color.
