Specialty Museum
The Cheyenne Union Pacific Railroad Depot Museum is located on the south side of 15th Street, at the intersection with Capitol Avenue. The Depot is located—naturally enough—alongside the still-active tracks of the Union Pacific, America’s first transcontinental railroad, in the heart of Cheyenne’s central business district. No longer used as a passenger facility, it sits on the northern side of the railroad’s mainline tracks, and forms the visual cornerstone for downtown Cheyenne. Located on the site of the first Cheyenne Depot, a wood frame building constructed in 1867, the Depot is one of the downtown’s two most significant landmarks. The Depot is prominently placement at one end of Capital Avenue, opposite the Wyoming State Capitol; Cheyenne’s other major historical landmark.

  • My family enjoyed the Museum tour, especially the miniature display of railways and cities. We watched the trains come into the station from the second floor (seats available). Very neatly kept! There...  more »
  • Cost $8 to actually walk through the musuem, but you can get a feeling of the building without the musuem.  more »
  • The renovated station was impressive and I could just imagine it bustling with passengers. The museum was $8 per adult and worth it to preserve these sites. There is seating on the 2nd floor where you...  more »

  • Great museum for the rail fan. HO narrow gauge model railroad from Golden, CO, past the Georgetown Loop.
  • Fantastic. Didn't know it was a railroad town. Great experience and learned a lot.
  • I have been to the museum and it was cool but I go to the depot on Fridays in the summer for free entertainment and beer. I went to the newly opened"accomplice bar and grill" and I was not impressed. The Albany is much better.
  • Amazing building, awesome museum, and a great model train display.
  • Great cardboard town next door!
