Henricus Historical Park, Chester
(4.5/5 based on 80+ reviews on the web)
Commemorating more than 400 years of history, Henricus Historical Park re-creates everyday 17th-century life in the second successful English settlement in North America and in the Virginia Indian site of Arrohateck. Due to its prime location as a military outpost on a bluff overlooking the James River, the site also boasts rich Revolutionary War and Civil War history, which visitors may experience through special events and programs throughout the year.

Surrounded by the 810 acre Dutch Gap Conservation Area, the living history museum offers exceptional Pre-K-12 and adult education programs, and both indoor and outdoor meeting and special event space. Henricus Historical Park is a nonprofit 501(c) (3) organization that operates in partnership with the Henricus Foundation and the counties of Chesterfield and Henrico.

  • Is the staff insane or is it simply illegal to sequester feral cats out there, openly feed them from large flats of canned cat food, watch these cats carry off poor squirrels & little warblers even when they were just fed in view of Audubon on a birding expedition. Taxpayer money goes for this? Gross. Don't go. A cat darted across our path in front of a child on bike. It's a disaster all the way around.
  • This is history explained where it happened. Totally worth the trip. Great interpretation by reenactors. I would definitely come here again.
  • The park has done a very good job with the recreation of the fort and village. It is easy to place yourself in the place in the time, and as a history guide, very effective for conveying experience.
  • Jamestown Settlement seems to have more depth and breadth. The historic interpreters were knowledgeable and friendly.
  • Awesome recreation of the original historic town. Great running trail around the park. Also has a cool little picnic area near the water. My family loves to spend the afternoon there.
