Mingo Falls, Cherokee
(4.7/5 based on 650+ reviews on the web)
Just outside Great Smoky Mountains National Park, discover Mingo Falls. The 36.5 m (120 ft) waterfall is one of the tallest falls in the southern Appalachians. Take a short hike along Pigeon Creek Trail to view the falls. The hike is only 0.65 km (0.4 mi) but includes many steep steps, making it a bit of a challenging climb. At the top of the stairs, you'll see and feel the mist of the powerful falls. There are no facilities other than parking here, but you'll find services in the town of Cherokee just a few miles south. • It's quite a hike, up 170 or so tall stairs, but the view at the top is beautiful. So worth the effort. It is a bit of a workout, but with plenty of time even the most athletically challenged can make...  more »
  • One of the most picturesque locations in the smokies. The waterfall is absolutely breathtaking, and well worth the uphill climb to get there.
  • It was a really short hike, easy for families with small kids. The drive out to the waterfall was beautiful. If you're in Cherokee, this is a must see

  • We've been to this waterfall twice, and I was a bit disappointed the second time. It's very pretty, but the water flow was much stronger in May last year than it was in July of this year. Maybe it's just the time of year. But I was still very pretty, and it was neat to see the water run over the mossy rocks differently than they did last year. I would suggest going early in the morning, and definitely not on a holiday weekend. Parking is very limited. There are two ways into the parking area, one being a one lane road and that makes it very difficult to get through when people are parking on both sides of an already narrow road. The trial up is a staircase, and then once you get to the top it's a dirt/rocky path up to the bridge where you can see the falls.
  • This is a pretty waterfall with remarkably easy access. There's a parking area right beside Mingo creek with signage leading the way. A set of stairs and a gravel path leads right to a bridge at the base of the falls. The falls is much prettier when there's been a recent rain. Enjoy!!!!
  • We had three adults, 2 children and 2 dogs and we were able to hike up with relative ease. It is a little steep, but our children are used to hiking. The Falls are beautiful!! Well worth it.
  • Easily accessible waterfall just outside of Cherokee, NC. Must be able to climb 100s of stairs. Once you get up the stairs, the trail is short and easy to reach Mingo Falls. Overlook bridge for those not wanting to make the trek up to the waterfall itself.
  • Very beautiful off the beaten path waterfall. There are 161 steps at the beginning and then a short hike but it is totally worth it and accessible to children. Depending on the weather depends on how much flow the fall will have.
