  • Great stock, nice prices and easy to find the selections... they are well organized, and it is quite easy to find the way to right stock. They issue credit vouchers if you sell stuff then if you pay w...  read more »
  • Stumbled across this find and I could have spent hours in here but only had one hour. So many cool books, games, movies etc...good prices, spacious and provides hours of exploring. I will be back !!!
  • We are from Florida and do not have the luxury of a McKay and we lost track of time. Going through so many cool old books and movies. We found way more than we had ever thought.
  • What a rip off and waste of time. I had over 70 movies and they offered me $19 in cash. The sad thing is they took the time to put their price stickers on them and they were going to sale some of them for 7.95 each and offered me 27 cents a piece. Don't waste your time to sale to them! Greedy company!!!!
  • The perfect place for anyone who wants a good deal. Also be ready to hunt if you are looking for something specific. I think it's all part of the charm! The staff are friendly and I love this bookstore. I can usually find brand new DVDs still in plastic wrap. But as with any used store make sure the product isn't damaged and check any discs you buy for scratches and make sure that nothing is missing. I have bought some Disney Blu-rays that were supposed to have DVDs but that copy was missing.
  • Anyone who enjoys books, movies or music should visit McKay's. Because of the size of Chattanooga and the fact that it's a college town the inventory is always changing. If you are looking for a movie that came out in the last ten years it's almost guaranteed you will find a copy on DVD or Blu-ray. Going back farther can be a little more hit or miss, but the odds are still good you'll find what you want. They have a huge selection of fiction, nonfiction, comics, trade paperbacks, and tabletop RPG books, but this is where you are a lot more likely to find older items rather than things produced in the last ten years. Because of the college there is a constant rotation of any of the classics that get taught usually ask the same edition. The exception to the rule is popular series. You are sure to find copies of Game of Thrones, Harry Potter, Twilight, Fifty Shades, Hunger Games, etc. And there will be a shortage of these on the shelves right before a major motion picture release, but about a month after the movie comes out the shelves are swimming in them again. I saw this happen with Hunger Games and Twilight specifically. There is a huge music selection, but this too can be hit or miss, but when you do score (like finding Screaming for Vengeance on vinyl) it's really exciting. They fairly recently started buying and selling MTG cards. They don't have a huge selection, but if you know what you are doing they sell them by the bag. You look through and fill your bag and it's $5, you can fit about 100 cards in a single bag so that pretty much works out in your favor price per card. This is the only place I take my old stuff in to trade. They have a pretty decent trade percentage and it definitely works out in their favor, but I have made $50 cash before in a single visit and if you take the trade value (ie store credit) it will usually be double the cash amount. Any time I have friends come in from out of town we make a McKay's run. Always worth it.
  • I love all. The McKays bookstores. They've been local fixtures for many years and a wonderful source for used books and DVD's. More recently the store's have expanded their collections of anime, Manga, and classic games as well. All in all its a great local shop.
  • My wife and I are self proclaimed nerds. That being said, any opportunity to jump at a used bookstore is one we take. McKay's is that and so much more. As soon as you walk in the front door you're faced with everything from used books (to include comics, graphic novels and all genres of books) to audio books and DVD's/BLU-RAY's and video games ranging from PS2 and WII to current generation console titles. Then you realize there's an upstairs and the fun continues. There is a huge collection of used CD's and vinyl all at a very reasonable price. It is virtually impossible for us to walk in to either of the McKay's we've been to (Chattanooga and Nashville) and leave without spending at least $60
