Hamilton Place, Chattanooga

#4 of 7 in Shopping in Chattanooga
Hamilton Place is an enclosed, two-story shopping mall in Chattanooga, Tennessee just off I-75. It was the largest shopping mall in the state of Tennessee from 1987 to 1998; at this time, it was superseded in size by Knoxville's West Town Mall. Hamilton Place is considered a sister property to Northgate Mall, located in nearby Hixson.HistoryThe mall opened to the public on August 5, 1987. The original anchors were Belk, Parisian, Loveman's, Regal Cinemas 9, and Sears. JCPenney and Hess's stores were added later, vacating their former locations at Eastgate Mall. Proffitt's acquired Loveman's in 1988. Proffitt's then acquired Hess's in 1992 creating the dual store location. In 1998, Belk "swapped" several mall locations throughout the southeast with Dillard's, thus exiting the Chattanooga market only to return in 2005 after its purchase of Proffitt's from Saks Incorporated. In 2006 Belk purchased Parisian, also from Saks Inc., and closed this location which would later become a Dillard's Men's, Children & Home store.

  • How could I not ABSOLUTELY LOVE HAMILTON PLACE MALL!! They have everything and if you take the time you can find awesome deals on clothes and other things!! I find surprisingly good deals on a lot of things. Even Jewelry! Pandora is a must check into. Durable jewelry and rings. Really pretty!! Love it!!
  • They do not care about the safety of the Shoppers if they did they would make sure that every single entrance and stop sign showed a no guns policy sign however the only signs exist on the main entrances and on stop signs that you encounter only while leaving the mall I have brought this up to local police, the head of Mall security, and the managers of the retail stores inside the mall after 6 months nothing has happened.. shootings occur left and right at this place due to gang activity and everything, apparently they don't care about altering their tactics. Either allow CCP holders to carry or post properly before an innocent person gets arrested for carrying legally just to feel protected.
  • This mall has really declined over the last decade. Stores stop selling what you need you buy online. Most major retail stores are or will be gone. Mostly novilty shops now. Stuff looks dated. Stores around the mall have better choices. The parking lot has turned into a maze especially on the back side with those circle through intersections. Locals may be used to it but out of town folks watch out!
  • We visited on Sunday afternoon and walked through after lunch at Red Robin. The stores were not busy and the anchor department stores were confusing. There were various entrances to the small stores. Difficult for a first time shopper. It was nice to see an indoor play area for preschool kids. Unfortunately it is not monitored and school kids around 8 or 10 years old we're running and jumping over and between the small children. Parents were there but the parent of the older kids ignored the signs and hight restrictions. It is very dangerous for small children, despite being designed for them.
  • Nice, clean mall with good options for shopping. Love people's socks in Chattanooga! (See photo of my boyfriend) Decent food court, but they have allowed people with loud toys to set up in the kiosks near the tables. Nothing like the sounds of small dogs barking throughout your meal to make you happy to leave. Also the Wheelchair rental is very far from various entrances and they only have one rental location. If you are needing one, check the map on where to park. You must give your keys or license, as well as your name for the free rental.

Where to stay in Chattanooga

Centrally located Chattanooga hotels offer comfortable rooms just a walk from the city's best shops, restaurants, and museums. Staying in the middle of everything can cost a bundle, so if you're traveling on a budget or simply prefer a bed and breakfast atmosphere, consider staying farther away from the central part of townwhile on holiday. Most budget-friendly inns located along the free electric shuttle route servicing the downtown area offer all the comforts of home at the fraction of the price charged by the big chains.
