Where to stay in Charlottesville

Hotels and inns in Charlottesville's lively downtown area offer proximity to the city's main attractions, but they can be on the expensive side. There are several more inexpensive options located along or near Emmet Street, which is a short drive from the main thoroughfare. Alternatively, immerse yourself in local history by staying at a centuries-old bed and breakfast. Many of these establishments are complete with fine period furnishings.

  • Quaint little shopping area very welcoming. The pizza and ice cream was awesome. We went during down time but it was great (except for people walking their dogs- I'm scared of dogs).  more »

  • I adore this place, whenever I say I'm going to charlottesville, it's usually for the shopping and culture that IS found in fashion square. There is a decent night life with pubs open later, and quite a few day time events. An eclectic mix of vendors adorn the middle of the brick pathway selling everything from pottery to comic books and even hand made jewelry.
  • This was my first visit to the area. It was very nice. On my visit we saw several performances and nice specialty shops. There were also quite a few places to choose from if you wanted to grab a bite to eat or something sweet. Lovely
  • Great place to find a variety of food and entertainment. Shopping is a bit too much in terms of what I would spend, but if you have money to blow it's ideal. The atmosphere is great and speaks of fun and excitement! If you don't like crowded places this isn't necessarily the spot to go but if you're introverted and like to do your own thing it's okay, because even though there are loads of people you won't be unnecessarily bothered. I recommend the area for anyone visiting C'ville.
  • GREAT PEDESTRIAN MALL WITH SHOPPING AND RESTAURANTS. get some old fashioned pie and sandwiches at the old fashioned drug store soda shop with stools at the counter and a fireplace that they even light sometimes in the winter. Classic! Musicians on the street, everyone brings their dogs, open air restaurant seating, antique shops, specialty paper and clothing stores. I loved it and wandered up and down for hours. Could have gone back over and over again. Next time.
  • kinda a pricey area but there are plenty of restaurants and attractions for almost any budget. tons of people, street artists, shops, music on Friday evenings. overall fun place to wind down with friends. will definitely be back for my birthday this weekend.
