Battery & White Point Gardens, Charleston

Garden
Once a weapon-filled defensive site, Battery & White Point Gardens is now designed for peace and tranquility. As you walk through the pleasant park and gardens, you can examine cannons, statues, and other monuments, including a bronze bust of famous poet, novelist, and historian W.G. Simms. Look for the commemorative marker for a pirate captain and his crew who were hung at the site about 300 years ago. All your wandering will be in the shadow of many large antebellum houses, surrounded by oak trees and overlooking the Charleston Harbor. The gardens are suitable for picnicking, recreation, photography, and other leisurely activities. • Nice place to enjoy a stroll. The park is heavily shaded and a great place to enjoy a picnic or just a walk. They do allow off-leash dogs but it didn't seem like a problem. Most dogs seemed well trained and had no issues!
  • Very scenic and worth walking around. Great for tourists and locals both. No restrooms nearby so if you have little kids take them to the restroom before you head over. The park, water and beautiful homes make it a must see at least once.
  • Beautiful! I can't imagine going to Charleston and not going to White Point Gardens. The walk is relaxing you can see the Battery and it is full of history. I highly recommend visiting here if your in the area.
  • Great place to chill and people watch. Most weekdays, around lunch time, there is this dude without a shirt, shadow boxing and exercising. He is clearly trying to impress the ladies. He is clearly unsuccessful.
  • Beautiful place to picnic, walk you dog or kids to run and play. The views are breathtaking year round, night and day. Free internet by Charleston
