Spanning 471 m (1,546 ft) over Charleston's Cooper River, Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge stands as one of the world's longest cable-stayed bridges. Two support towers extend 175 m (575 ft), holding up eight lanes of traffic, and have been designed to withstand earthquakes, hurricane-force winds, and other extreme weather and disasters. You can walk or bike across the entirety of the bridge on the dedicated footpath for a sweeping view of the river and the surrounding urban area.   • The Arthur Ravenel Bridge is a thing of engineering beauty. You get the best view of it from the water on the boat that goes to Fort Sumter. Also, great fun to drive over.
