Chittenango Falls State Park is a 194acre state park located in Madison County, New York, east of Cazenovia Lake. The park features a 167ft waterfall that cascades over roughly 400-million-year-old bedrock, flowing beneath a wooden bridge spanning the meandering Chittenango Creek. The park offers a variety of activities including picnic tables with pavilions, a playground, a nature trail, hiking, and fishing.Approximately 45,000 visitors come to the park each year to engage in a variety of outdoor recreational activities. Although many camping guides still mistakenly list it as a campground, the park's campground was closed in the mid-2000s.Chittenango Falls State Park is also home to the endemic and endangered Chittenango ovate amber snail (Novisuccinea chittenangoensis).Trails and scenic viewingWhile the park is open year-round, the trail leading to the falls' viewing bridge is closed during winter months due to icy conditions. Views of the falls are still quite picturesque from the top however, with the ability to view the falls from the side of the creek or from a small viewing rail. There is also a steep uphill trail allowing visitors to walk along the side of the lower creek to the top of the falls. Along that trail, there are several viewing spots.Chittenango Falls State Park is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our world travel planner, Cazenovia Edition.

This is a great state park for hiking, picnicing and veiwing the falls. There is a trail from the falls to the village of Cazenovia along the abandon train track. more »
When I pulled up it looked a bit underwhelming, but there actually was a lot to see. Take the trail under the road and find some boulders in the water near small rapids that you can stand on. The trai... more »
Gorgeous there! Easy to find. Good parking. Was free to park when I went. Nice paths to walk. Kid friendly HOWEVER not able to use a stroller as there are many steps or some parts are steep.
This is a small but nice park. The main attraction, obviously, is the waterfall. During good weather, you can descend the staircase to the bottom of the falls if you so choose. The hidden gem of the park in my opinion is the trail system at the back of the park. There is shorter trail that overlooks Chittanango Creek, and there is a longer "meadow" trail that loops the eastern edge of the park. There is a moderate amount of climbing, and some sections of the trails tend to be wet and muddy, especially after a rain. The only negative is the trails aren't always well maintained. I've been here in the summer time and the trails get a little overgrown from lack of grooming. There are also several wooden bridges in disrepair but don't let those issues discourage you, this is an awesome hike. There are a couple of covered pavilions with picnic tables and outdoor grills. Outside of that, there is not much else to do in this small park.
We went to the park for the view and the view is very exciting nice waterfalls plenty of places to sit and the cookout lot of trails and pads going down to the bottom of the falls nice place to visit we loved it.
CNY has some great waterfalls and Chittenango is one of the best Ample parking, great picnic area, beautiful hiking trails with excellent views of the falls Great place for the family
Fun and easy little hill, gorgeous falls, great in each season. That said, I do wish the restricted area was a little more restricted. It's pretty upsetting to see folks willfully disregarding the postings about protecting the snail and plant populations.
