Chittenango Falls State Park is a 194acre state park located in Madison County, New York, east of Cazenovia Lake. The park features a 167ft waterfall that cascades over roughly 400-million-year-old bedrock, flowing beneath a wooden bridge spanning the meandering Chittenango Creek. The park offers a variety of activities including picnic tables with pavilions, a playground, a nature trail, hiking, and fishing.Approximately 45,000 visitors come to the park each year to engage in a variety of outdoor recreational activities. Although many camping guides still mistakenly list it as a campground, the park's campground was closed in the mid-2000s.Chittenango Falls State Park is also home to the endemic and endangered Chittenango ovate amber snail (Novisuccinea chittenangoensis).Trails and scenic viewingWhile the park is open year-round, the trail leading to the falls' viewing bridge is closed during winter months due to icy conditions. Views of the falls are still quite picturesque from the top however, with the ability to view the falls from the side of the creek or from a small viewing rail. There is also a steep uphill trail allowing visitors to walk along the side of the lower creek to the top of the falls. Along that trail, there are several viewing spots.Chittenango Falls State Park is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our world travel planner, Cazenovia Edition.

Chittenango Falls State Park Reviews
When I pulled up it looked a bit underwhelming, but there actually was a lot to see. Take the trail under the road and find some boulders in the water near small rapids that you can stand on. The trai... more »
How is that we've lived in the area for over 30 years & hadn't yet been to these lovely falls? With just a 45 minute drive, we were happy to take in this quintessential upstate New York waterfall. The... more »
It’s a series of stairs to view the falls. Plenty of parking. There are some trails you can walk also. They are easy trails walking through the woods, no climbs but very well maintained. more »
Really beautiful falls. It's nice that you can drive right up to see the falls, because that's really the best part of this park. If you are looking for a good view this place is great, but it's not the best for hiking. There are hiking trails leading away from the falls, but the paths don't seem to be very well maintained, and it's very easy to make a turn that leads you to a dead-end or a maintenance road. These trails are also very muddy in the spring.
Great waterfall always water going over. Several different overlooks including handicap and wheelchair accessible overlooks. Trou going to the bottom of the falls where there is a bridge you can turn and face the falls for amazing pictures with overlooks going down along the way. Trell whining back up across the creek and back to the parking area. Plenty of parking reasonably priced day fees when they are even charging. Many picnic areas located around the park. Several Pavilions. They offer play area for smaller children. Worthwhile trip for the whole family or a romantic walk for a couple
The park is clean. The trails are well-marked. It is a good place for family picnic. Over all, one of my favorite places in central New York.
Easy access to the falls on good trail. Bridge over the creek provides a great photo vantage point. Lots of parking and other recreation areas. Great early in the morning.
Small. Scenic beauty. Great park and picnic areas. Open pavilion. Off the beaten path.
