  • on the road up to the caves the journey begins, I generally like to remind the young folk to stay close as the caves have been know to house some very big feeted hairy persons. Stick tight to the Rang...  more »
  • Before you head out here, check that the stupid federal government is doing it's job. We got all the way there to find it was closed because Congress/Senate can't do their job properly.  more »
  • Best to get a reservation so that you can guarantee an entrance time to see the caves. You can see the stalactites/stalagmites and smell and 'feel' the atmosphere of the caves.  more »

  • A great adventure. Our guide was Chaz, and he was full of cool information. The cave is eye-popping and wonderful. A must-see if you're around there. Pro tip: your WHOLE PARTY has to be with you to reserve a tour time. So go early, and bring everybody.
  • Loved it! We had a great guide and we learned a lot. Fascinating place! Be prepared for a bit of a hike inside the caves. Good shoes and warm clothes are a must (ie wouldn't recommend shorts, t-shirt and flip flops!). One other note, you can make tour reservations online, but they keep about 2/3 of the spots available for first come first at the entrance.
  • Exceptional. Every aspect of the stay was a pleasure. The cave tour was fascinating. The downstairs diner was just great. I wish I could go there every Sunday for lunch! The cozy room was such a joy to stay in. We were on the top floor and had a lovely view. The surrounding hikes were pleasant and had some nice variety of lengths and difficulty. The fine dining restaurant made for a very nice end to our day. The lodge itself is truly an incredible place inside and out, beautiful really. Every member of the staff was excellent. My expectations were well exceeded. Expensive but worth it. I hope to visit again someday.
  • I definitely consider this a must-see experience. I've been to lots of caves. This one is very special. Please note that you must see it in a guided tour. You can't just roam around because they want to be sure people don't vandalize the cave (If you want to see a cave system that you see at your own pace by yourself, also try lava beds national monument in northern California). Oregon Caves is a marble cave which means it is more rare. Unfortunately small children cannot go in the caves (there is a height requirement). There are some stairs you will have to climb. We made a reservation for our tour on the website. We got there early and they let us go on an earlier tour since there was space. There are some amazing hiking trails above ground that you can try after your cave tour. We went on the big tree loop, in which you can find an enormous douglas fir which I think is the biggest or one of the biggest douglas fir trees in Oregon. Wish we could have stayed longer and done more hiking. Will definitely go again someday.
  • A rustic experience as a park, Oregon Caves NM is far away from just about everything. In other wards, come prepared. A twisty road leads high into the park. Other than a close-by campground, there is a visitor center (warm sweatshirts can be purchased here, in case, if taking the cool cave tour), and a beautiful old Chateau for lodging with a small (snacks) store and restaurant. There is no cell service or internet, so plan on spending your time enjoying the scenery. It’s gorgeous. If you’re into hiking countless stairs in the damp and dark (some people might not be able to physically climb inside the cave, check with tour office), a fantastic cave tour awaits you. Definitely worth the twisty drive, with or without the cave tour. Reservations probably needed on high volume weekends/times.
