  • Fun little shops and restaurants right on the beach. The atmosphere is very quaint small beachy town without being overly touristy. The rides opened at 5p and stayed open till 11. The tickets seemed a bit pricey but we thought it was a good deal to purchase the wrist bands for $25 each. The only thing they couldn't be used for was a trampoline bungee type attraction. We were lucky to attend on a Thursday night because they have live music that begins at 630 and fireworks at 9pm. Just be aware that they close a section of the beach at 530 to prepare for fireworks.
  • Obviously all these great reviews are from folks who really don't know the place. While the beach is nice, so long as you don't pick a spot where some inconsiderate tourist has left 20 cigarette butts and a half dozen Pabst Blue Ribbon cans when a trash can is 15 ft away, the town has a dark side you should be aware of. Carolina Beach has become the end of the line for vagrants, homeless, drug addicts, con artists and thieves. I've watched the decline living here for 10 years. The "hotels" on Cape Fear Blvd, Harper Ave and the side streets around the central business district are full of very shady characters mostly living on social services. Meth and heroin are major problems and lead to a vast number of larcenies and thefts; car break ins, theft of your stuff on the beach, walking out on restaurant tabs and occasionally violence. ALWAYS lock your car. Many of the bars are to be avoided after dark, especially late night when trouble always seems to come out. Definitely after midnight you should be wary walking the streets or interacting with others on the streets. The summer carnival workers are a breed of their own and tend to bring trouble as they drift into town with the carnival, and then wind up getting fired or left behind when the carnival leaves, adding to the vagrant population. The police have no mercy on tourists, particularly driving under the influence, and driving with even a couple of cocktails should definitely be avoided. Busting tourists for DUI while on vacation is like catching fish in a barrel, yet the drug problems here year round runs rampant and apparently requires a higher level of police work than the easy DUI or public drunkenness busts. Being named the "Drunkest Town in North Carolina" is nothing to be proud of, but you'd never know it the way the town is run. If you're looking for a nice quiet family vacation spot look elsewhere, Oak Island, Surf City, Topsail, Ocean Isle or Sunset Beach. If you're looking for the Redneck Riviera and wide open partying, overweight, beer swilling tattooed people in bikinis with a few teeth missing and who speak a dialect of English that hasn't been identified yet then maybe Carolina Beach is for you. Me, I'm moving, this isn't what I retired for.
  • Nice place but the "fair" is not really fair. 2 tickets for one slide down a sticky slide? Nah. More shops, more simple walk up eating places. It's still magical for the younger kids but my 10 year old has started to see past the flashing lights! We'll be back like moths to a light bulb!
  • The beach was beautiful this past weekend. The new boardwalk is great and it's an easy walk to the water and all the little shops along the boardwalk. Can't wait to go back.
  • It can be fun on a special night when they have music playing or some other type of event. On a average day it is just full of kids or local drifters. Rides are expensive for how outdated they are.
