The Flower Fields, Carlsbad

4.0
#2 of 7 in Parks in Carlsbad
Stimulate your senses of smell and sight by taking in the colorful and fragrant display of the expansive The Flower Fields. Hop aboard an antique tractor wagon ride through the 20 hectares (50 acres) of flower fields overlooking the Pacific Ocean and listen to audio commentary on the history of the fields. Afterward, tour the artist gardens to see how flowers can be used as art. The site also includes a 140 sq m (1,500 square ft) greenhouse filled with poinsettia flowers, a cymbidium orchid greenhouse, and rose gardens. Younger children can navigate the sweet-pea maze, explore Santa's playground, or mine for polished gemstones. If you're interested in sustainable agricultural practices, check out the waterwise farming showcase on water awareness and the organic demonstration garden on edible and ornamental plants. • This one was a little surprise as I didn’t know much about this place and it’s existence. There are good displays that explain a lot about the history of the fields and how they were found. There is a...  more »

  • Great place to go In the spring. Plan on taking your time. Have a lot of water with you. Some of the areas have a place to take photos deeper into the flowers. Talk to the gardeners, most have been there for many years and are happy to educate you or share a story of the events that are held there. This is the perfect place to stop and smell the FLOWERS. It is a little expensive, but it is very breathtaking when you see this River of color with an ocean view.
  • It's a nice calm experience to have with your family. There is a charge but nothing overly pricey and parking is free. If you love food get a dessert they have this strawberry short cake with ice cream that's to die for (It's not too sweet either) from what I remember it was near the gift shop! It's something you need to experience at least once. Since it's summer, I'd also recommend going in the afternoon so that it isn't too hot. It might make it easier to find parking as well.
  • This is a great first date place! You are surrounded with thousands of beautiful flowers. You are able to walk through the fields of flowers or simply sit on one of the benches scattered throughout the flower fields. It's the best way just show your love one you really care by bringing her to see a ton of live flowers rather than giving her a dozen dead ones
  • Amazing flowers and the fields are just spectacular. Can even see the ocean from the fields, makes for the best photos! Arguably if was a bit pricey, $14 per adult. We wanted to see it so we paid (of course) but we probably won't go again unless there price goes down. It's beautiful but it really is just flowers. Do not attempt to go on the weekend! We tried to go around mid day on a Sunday and the parking lot was horribly crazy. You couldn't even find a spot in the lot of the outlet mall, it was chaos. Nice gift shop as you exit and there a couple gardens by the fields too. They have legit strawberry shakes too! Delicious. Overall the flower fields are pretty but expensive.
  • It's a beautiful view, but the season is quick and busy. Entrance fees are pretty outrageous when you get to see most of the fields by just driving by them. It's fun to take the morning and check them out. Drive above them, stop by the Armstrong garden center and take the inspiration to grow something, get some strawberries, and then go check out the outlets nearby.
