Inspirock Rating:
4.5/5 based on 1,100+ reviews on the web
Surfers and swimmers alike share the crystal clear waters belonging to Carlsbad State Beach. Take advantage of theĀ 8 km (5 mi) stretch of beaches bordering coastal bluffs. You can try scuba diving, swimming, fishing, and beachcombing here. With its sparse population, shared mainly by residents of campsites on the cliff tops, this beach is a quiet site. Several different areas offer amenities--such as showers, Wi-Fi, and a camp store--spread out along the cliff tops. From the top, enjoy panoramic views of San Diego beaches. To access the beach, head down one of the many wooden staircases. Be aware that lifeguards are not always on duty here. • Loved our beach walk during our recent trip. Sand between the toes as the waves crash onto the shore... what could be better?
  • This beach was easy to get to and easy to park (being off season). The beach had very little litter, and nice sand. A definite must-see!
  • It was a little cool since its October, but the kids had a wonderful time at the ocean. The beach is very close to the hotel and near town.
  • Fun, safe family atmosphere. Definitely worth the effort to book. Wish we had hook ups (that's why 4 stars). Sites are nice sized! We had 114, HUGE beach site!
  • I've been coming here since I was really little, and it never fails to keep on satisfying me. In fact, it's a family tradition to come here every summer. The beach is clean, and even though the stairs are a inconvenience, they aren't too bad. Their camp store is fairly clean, and reasonably priced. If you want a even better experience, drive down to ponto beach which is very close to here, it has no rocks in the water and barely any seaweed or trash
  • Camping right in front of the ocean, with the sound of the waves and the breeze coming in. Also, it's good for kids to go around in a safe place and can reach the beach in few minutes. It has a nice little shop. The only con is that it does not have much shade: make sure to have a foldable canopy during the summer.
  • I'm not generally a fan of these luxury-style "glamp" grounds, but my sister wanted to take her kids camping here and I relented. I was pleasantly surprised to find (despite the population, density, and infrastructure bring a bit too ritzy for this seasoned camper's tastes) that this is real beach-side camping in California and it's perfect for families. I've done some beach-side camping throughout Baja, and if you've ever done that, then you know that it's less than luxurious. South Carlsbad State Beach is beach camping atmosphere but with running water!!! I highly recommend you give it a shot if you ever have the opportunity!#
  • Nice place to camp. Bathrooms are clean and there are showers with warm water. Disappointing that the RV campers are dispersed among the tent campers. We camped in tents and had an RV next to us and their generator drowned out the sound of the ocean.
