Where to stay in Captain Cook

To take advantage of the best recreational activities Captain Cook has to offer, book your stay at one of the area's private ranches or vacation villas. Though pricey, these establishments often provide impressive amenities like guided tours of the area as well as complimentary spa treatments, fitness facilities, and access to private beaches. For something a bit less expensive, consider one of the city's budget-friendly bed and breakfasts. These places often offer sweeping ocean views that make up for what they may lack in amenities.

  • Picked up honey here. I'll be ordering more online. Several kinds that are awesome but the white looking one that is a bit crystalline is awesome.  more »

  • I did a tour here after making a simple reservation the night before. Was easy to do on their website with an email confirmation and the tour is free. I noticed you can also drop in if they have space on the tour you're free to join or if you want just stop by to buy some honey and bee based product. They have a nice little one room museum of bee keeping that is also interesting. Wasn't hard to find with Google maps and it's a very pretty location. The gals on site were immediately welcoming and friendly. Easy to talk to and approachable. The tour isn't very long but is informative and you can ask questions if you have them. And of course a big part of it being a free tour is that honey is for sale! You know this going in, it's not required but after a tasting it's just about a necessity! I bought enough to have mine shipped for free. What these people do here is very important for a lot of reasons. It's good they also inform the public. I enjoyed my visit!
  • Big island bees is a wonderfully ran local business that sells hand made honey products. The visitor's center is open to the public and allows the average person a complete look at the whole process from start to finish, the honey products are a little on the expensive side but they take care to male a quality product. You can take a short drive down the hill for a quick visit to their actual bee hives where you can see the local workers doing everything from building new hive boxes to collecting large groups to go pollinate a farmers field.
  • This is an amazing day activities when visiting the Kona-Kailua area. You can reserve a spot on a tour of the apiary with a beekeeper and learn about the bees and how honey is made. The visitors center has a lot of educational items, samples of honey, and lots of things like honey and souvenirs to take home for yourself or omiyage. I can't wait to go back!
  • I would highly recommend visiting Big Island Bees for the tour and some honey. The tour was brief but very informative and interesting for all ages. The shop was also fun to walk around, albeit small, it was filled with artefacts and photos from the past, as well as some super cool beeswax sculptures. But the honey, oh my gosh the honey...I don't really know how to describe it but the flavours were so complex and each kind had its own distinctive taste. If it were possible, I would have filled my entire luggage with it.
  • Very cool tour and yummy honey! I love this place!
