  • Oddly, this is probably the most magical moment that we spent in 1 month in the American West. All started with an error in the GPS. There did us not take the road I had planned initially except that I did not realized immediately. Actually it is once well underway at the heart of "Head Of The Rocks" that we started to seriously worry! From the desert to the horizon, we meet no other vehicle, the thought that comes to mind "oulala is not the moment to crash!". A magical descent which curves very tight (and still the matter of oulala but we're landing where?) but the landscapes are more amazing with each other, colors more crazy succeeding, sky blue, yellow, Orange, green, purple, mauve... Finally we did the whole track (in SUV) to Fruita Schoolhouse originally envisaged. I think it took us 3 good, H. Happiness in the rough, I think that the unexpected contributed even more. I RECOMMEND to 200%!

  • Wonderful drive between beautiful mountains ends in 2 mile dirt road. The dirt road is a really scary at times but worth it. At the end you can do an easy hike on an old road between two sheer vertica...  read more »
  • The Notom Road turn off just 24 - Utah SR behind the national park boundary of Capitol Reef - South. It is tarred the first couple of miles and then becomes the "dust road": easily passable usually with a car in wet weather with a 4WD SUV not recommended (sand with clay is a dangerous mix). You can see on the right side the different, massive, faces of the Waterpocket fold in Capitol Reef National Park, on the left the still snowcapped in spring peak in the Henry mountains with upstream eroded sandstone hills... You can continue this road up to Lake Powell, or but continue the Burr Trail towards Boulder at the marked intersection.
