  • These petroglyphs are amazing. The longer you stand and look at the rock wall, you become aware of and spot more & more of them. The park has also posted story boards & viewing glasses to help you spo...  more »
  • If you go this route along Capitol Reef drive is definitely worth it to stop and to start looking at the Petroglyphs. It's free but can be a little crowded, try to do this so early.

  • Our next stop was the petroglyph panel where Native-Americans had been chiseling their dreams since 600 AD. The huge parking lot was mobbed with buses and cars, so we almost turned around. And we prob...  more »

  • It's really incredible. Not too easy to spot but once you see it you start thinking of ancient civilizations. Would be nice to know what they wanted to say. (Yeah, I know some of the interpretations, but still .... )
  • What I miss most are those moments between the memorable. - Jack Gilbert
  • Not too many petroglyphs on this site. But, it is next to the highway and well maintained.
  • I find seeing the art of the ancient tribes from this region absolutely fascinating! Note that it takes some amount of concentration to find the numerous examples on the rock face so be patient and look carefully.
  • Never seen petroglyphs in live before but only on TV. Worth stopping to see them when we were needing a break.

Where to stay in Capitol Reef National Park

Capitol Reef National Park does not offer lodging beyond its campground, so many visitors opt to stay in the town of Torrey just to the west along Route 24. Economy motels, some of which are part of national chains and others of which are locally owned, dominate the list of options, but a few inns and bed and breakfasts are available too. Torrey has a couple of dining establishments, adding to the convenience of staying here. You'll also find a few motels between the town and the park entrance.
