Where to stay in Capitol Reef National Park

Capitol Reef National Park does not offer lodging beyond its campground, so many visitors opt to stay in the town of Torrey just to the west along Route 24. Economy motels, some of which are part of national chains and others of which are locally owned, dominate the list of options, but a few inns and bed and breakfasts are available too. Torrey has a couple of dining establishments, adding to the convenience of staying here. You'llĀ also find a few motels between the town and the park entrance.

  • The petroglyphs are right off the side of the road! They are very easy to get to! There is a short boardwalk that follows the side of the canyon. Keep your eyes peeled for wildlife also!  more »
  • An interesting stop in Capital Reef National Park is near Fruita Valley where you can find the Fremont Petroglyths carved into the rock face along Rt 24. Here you can park your car and walk along boar...  more »
  • Not far to walk on the boardwalk close to the parking lot just off the highway. Easily accessible, hence a bus stop, but many of the designs are not that clear. We saw much clearer examples elsewhere.  more »

  • Not too many petroglyphs on this site. But, it is next to the highway and well maintained.
  • I find seeing the art of the ancient tribes from this region absolutely fascinating! Note that it takes some amount of concentration to find the numerous examples on the rock face so be patient and look carefully.
  • Worth a quick stop to see the petroglyphs if your already driving by.
  • Even though hard to spot at first, it's absolutely incredible to be able to view these beautiful petroglyphs.
  • Excellent chance to see Native American Petroglyphs, many well preserved examples on various red rock cliff faces to see right off the road, easy access.
