  • We stopped here for a short walk. Unfortunately the hurricane was on the way in, rain started so we could not spend enough time. Also the weather was affecting the wildlife. This is a short walk but y...  read more »

  • One of the hidden gems of the South Jersey /Cape May county area. Peaceful and serene Nature Preserve with many species of birds to search out. Very close to the lighthouse, beaches and farms in the surrounding areas! Check it out! :)
  • Used to be a cow pasture when I was growing up but now it's part of the Nature Conservancy. Technically they're aren't supposed to charge you to go in, but they will quietly harass you by following you around if you don't pay them the 'contribution', even if you're only using the road that goes to the beach. Hey folks, it's not a toll road! One woman working there actually told me that I wasn't allowed to go fishing on the beach, which is an outright lie since they don't own the beach, it belongs to the State.
  • Did a quick short walk to see what shore birds were there. There are several different trail lengths so you can use what matches your available time and interest. Nice to see what our donations are supporting. Tx.
  • Fabulous example of TNC conservation work of coastal habitat!
  • The Nature Conservancy's Cape May Meadows preserve is right on Sunset Ave, hard to miss. It makes for a great nature walk, beautiful throughout the year. There is a viewing platform toward the end of the loop (if you're in a hurry do the loop backwards). There are always lots of birds to see, waders and waterfowl. And osprey in residence viewable from the viewing platform. Pick up a paperback in town on the history of South Cape May -- the preserve used to be a town with a railroad and Victoria houses. But nature wanted the meadows back...railroad is underwater now!
