Where to stay in Canon City

There are a number of hotels and motels in Cañon City to suit a variety of tastes. Accommodations closer to downtown are more expensive, but visitors staying there can visit the city's most popular cultural attractions, restaurants, and bars on foot. Those who want to immerse themselves in the city's rich history can find several bed and breakfasts set in converted Victorian homes. For the real deal, look for one with period furnishings. You can take advantage of the city's surroundings by staying in a campsite or RV park on the outskirts of town.

  • Displays are very well done with a lot of information. Display of gas chamber was good, since it was original. The wardens did an excellent job of trying to help the prisoners with education.  more »

  • This museum is awesome. Its in an old women's prison next to a real prison. A good mixture of morbed and informative history. It was worth the 8 bucks a person.
  • It was interesting, but I thought the admission price of $8 for an adult a little steep. It doesn't take long to see.
  • Interesting place. Nice way to look at the Colorado prisons of yesteryear. Seemed to focus a bit much on the macabre, but I guess you need to give the people what they want.
  • Very fun and informative and its nice how you can free roam or due a recorded tour.
  • Great place to stop! Did not find the staff friendly whatsoever. But, the amount of information it contains makes it very fun and histroical. Check local magazines for a coupon for addmission!
