Jack Russell Brewery, Camino

3.5
#2 of 6 in Things to do in Camino
Jack Russell Farm Brewery is located in the Sierra Nevada Foothills of California, It is in the small town of Camino, California, midway between Sacramento and South Lake Tahoe, the beautiful rural setting of the brewery invites visitors to the area to stop and enjoy the fresh ales and fresh air.

This lovely setting, in a region known as Apple Hill for its apple, pear, and stone fruit orchards as well as its berry patches and Christmas tree farms, offers a tranquil place in which to relax and enjoy the full flavor of ales and hard ciders. The scenic views of the Sierra Foothills provide the opportunity to savor the elegance of these smooth-drinking beers (which are, quite likely, very different from the hand-crafted beers you have tried in the past) in a unique pastoral setting.

  • Cute spot to have a beer on a crisp fall day. Would suggest going on the weekend when they are fully open. Limited menu during the week.  more »
  • Every time we go to Apple Bille to get apples, Xmas trees or pumpkins, we end our day at this spot. The beer is always solid, but more importantly the outdoor space encourages you to loiter and enjoy ...  more »
  • We went on one of the nights they had music outside and we sat right in front. The food was great. I had a really good time trying some of their different meads. And the music was so good. We listened...  more »

  • This is the place to go in Apple Hill if you want a delicious variety of craft beers and a savory meal. They were grilling up everything fresh on the spot when I was there and I walked away satisfied. Parking is a bit impacted when it's busy but not as bad as some of the other places nearby.
  • A good place to have a picnic with a group. The beers are always delicious. Try to avoid weekends during peak Apple Hill season, unless you like a lot of company. I would recommend the lager when available.
  • Good people and tasty beer. Grab a growler and get a good deal on a refill.
  • My rating may be biased in the sense that I compare the pre-remodel Jack Russell, which would have been a clear 5-star, to the current Jack Russell and that may be why it is not 5-stars. I don't believe the quality of beer, wine or mead has changed, only the atmosphere. The tasting room was quaint and cozy with a wood burning stove in the corner; the patio was entrirely lawn. November 5th meant enjoying a pumpkin ale or vanilla stout by a Guy Fawkes bonfire. Of course an ever-extending fire season was bound to put a damper on the bonfire, but I do miss the old place.
  • This is how adults should do Apple Hill. Great beers and ciders. Way better than the big farms and without the metallic, syrupy taste. This place is really clean, with tables and chairs in the main area. Not much for kids to do here... More for the big kids.
