Fresh Pond Reservation, Cambridge
(4.1/5 based on 55+ reviews on the web)
Fresh Pond Reservation consists of 162 acres of open space surrounding and protecting the 155 acre Fresh Pond Reservoir. Fresh Pond Reservoir is a vital part of the drinking water supply system for the City of Cambridge. Fresh Pond is fed by the drinking water system's important upland reservoirs: Hobbs Brook Reservoir in Lincoln, Lexington, and Waltham, and Stony Brook Reservoir in Weston and Waltham. Raw water from Fresh Pond is purified at the adjacent Walter J. Sullivan Water Treatment Facility and pumped to Payson Park Reservoir in Belmont. From there it flows back to the city by gravity, providing drinking water to the residents and businesses of Cambridge.

  • Walk around the water. You takes about an hour, an hour and a half. You still hear all the highway on one side, it is a fine place to get surrounded by forest. Halfway up you can sit on a bench and have you look out over the Lake. Fun for Sunday morning breakfast or weekend lunch if it's not too cold.

  • A perfect place with great views. The walk around the pond is about two miles and really enjoyable.Lots of people walking their well behaved dogs and enjoying themselves. A real gem.
  • Great place to walk or run to get fit. I usually just like to stroll around the lake, it's also on the way to buy groceries. Try to get there while there is sunlight, it gets creepy when it's complete...  more »
