Stretching for 129 km (80 mi) through Massachusetts, Charles River reaches the sea in the city of Boston and is one of the area's key landmarks. The winding waterway, once at the forefront of the United States's industrialization, today provides many opportunities for recreation, such as rowing, sailing, and biking. Try hopping on the 37 km (23 mi) long bike path in Boston, which will take you past famous institutions, such as Harvard and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The river's esplanade offers views of the surrounding urban region in addition to marshes alive with waterfowl. You can rent a sailboat from one of the stands along the way. • Nothing beats a walk along the river, watching the skulls, kayaks, and sailboats. A pleasant way to spend an afternoon or evening while getting in some great exercise.  more »
  • We are going to sit back and watch the river char from the front of the MIT. Very cool atmosphere indoors male man with a sailboat is ideal for those who want to find out who'll ride.

Where to stay in Cambridge

As the home of two renowned universities, Cambridge caters mainly to the families of current or prospective students. You can stay near the university campuses by booking your room at a student-oriented bed and breakfast or guesthouse, which offer simple, comfortable lodging for a fraction of the price charged by the big chains. If you don't mind paying more and wish to stay near the city's major cultural attractions, consider a hotel just across the Charles River from downtown Boston.
