  • It is a place to go with time since you have to see the place, if you like the nature and greatness... When you lead you there, you think you've missed or where you are going, but in the end although hesitate get to nelder grove... for lack of time, I was getting dark, I didn't see hardly anything just to big ed and the two logs, embers of what were in another time, in which the white man was not there... possible to go, all terrain, a couple of sites that are not recommended there are passenger cars, gives a bit of respect that I didn't see nothing more than two tourists more seems a lonely area, but as I say I was getting... God willing I will try to see it carefully, greetings

  • We drove to Nelder Grove, just a few miles from Oakhurst. the walk to see the Sequoia was beautiful. It was amazing to see the size of the Sequoia. Must see!
  • Indeed-less spinning, but it is a worthy alternative to the private Mariposa Grove. Here, of course, is not so arranged ... almost no features and get not so convenient. But it's worth it.

  • Gorgeous short hiking loop among Sequoia trees and other flora and fauna. Easy trail with little elevation but gets narrow and could be slippery in poor weather conditions. Outhouse is the only facility in the parking lot. The drive to get here from the main road is winding and challenging. Suggest truck/SUV or decent car to get here.
  • If you want an out of the way, way-way-way out in the woods to see something really cool then you need to go to Nelder Grove. It is home of several really big Giant Sequoia’s, one of which is called Bull Buck. It’s the 3rd oldest living thing currently on earth (or so I was told). Over 2700 years old. It’s about 85-feet in circumference at about 4-feet high. Most of the trails are 1-1/2 miles or less with one being over 5-miles. Bull Buck is on one just over a mile so it’s good for a family even with small children. A picture cannot do justice to the awe-inspiring reaction you’ll get from laying eyes on them.
  • Nelder Grove is a quiet, uncrowded location to view giant sequoias. There several easy well maintained trails with markers corresponding to points in a free interpreted guide. 2016 through Spring 2017 Mariposa Grove in Yosemite is closed for restoration and Nelder Grove is the best spot to see sequoias in the Oakhurst area. Note the sequoias were partially logged in the early 20th century so you will see giant stumps as well as giant trees. Seeing both side-by-side is thought provoking and worthy of a special trip in its own right. Requires driving on several miles of unpaved roads- in exchange; no fees, no crowds, no gifts shops, no flush toilets- just cool moist old forest.
  • Beautiful...amazing...cool...fun...spacious...clean...but, the bugs! OMG the bugs! The gnats are aggressive and in your face your ears your eyes! The meat bees...! Always around even without food out. We unfortunately decided to leave early the next morning we just couldnt cope with the bugs! Beautiful place tho. Not recommended for small cars but might work.
  • Its a great place, lots of trials near by also the bathrooms are clean and close to any camp site. We stayed by a little creek we had other families camping by, but they were quite and we still had our privacy. Only thing watch out for the yellow jacket wasp aka "meat bees" I got stung twice they're like fly's, so many!
