Lake Tahoe, California

4.7
#3 of 40 in Winter Sports in California
The long shoreline of Lake Tahoe offers a family-friendly resort atmosphere on its California side, and a vibrant nightlife of high-rise casinos on the Nevada side. One of the country’s deepest bodies of water (measuring 501 m [1,645 ft] at maximum depth), the lake is nestled in the Sierra Nevada Mountains and offers a range of activities throughout the warmer months of the year, including swimming, boating, kayaking, windsurfing, hiking, and camping. Winter brings lots of snow, transforming the mountain slopes surrounding the lake into popular ski and snowboarding destinations. You can start your day backpacking through the wilderness around the lake and end your evening with a meal and a show at a casino hotel in nearby Reno. • I came to approximately 30 years Buri. Degree of transparency on the border of the States of Nevada and California, the world's largest lake. It is beautiful and in snow and with winter coming on, the mirror-like surface of the water. I saw this time took in the Lake.

  • Amazing lake with crystal clear water! We took the day & casually drove around the lake stopping at all the sight seeing places. So many beautiful places to get wonderful pictures. The kids loved it!
  • Excellent spot to spend the day or stay overnight. Get a boat and hit the water, or relax by the lake side. Been there only once but I feel like it's optimal during late spring or early fall
  • This is one of the best places I have ever visited entire my life. Water is so blue and beautiful. It is just 45 min. away from my dearest Reno. There is a beach as well which is even better than most of the ocean beaches. It is a sand beach. There are many activities you can do such as jet skiing, canoeing, kayaking on winter. There are lovely cabins all around that you can rent. There are many camping areas as well. You should rent a cabin or a camping area at least 2 months before the summer of you want to get a place with a reasonable price. This place is also close to Yosemite which is a must to visit if you are around.
  • I saw this place in the winter and in the summer and is just two different types of beautiful. I prefer winter because of all the snow and the sights are amazing. If you are there in the morning drop by The Log Cabin for an incredible breakfast.
  • Love Tahoe! North Shore especially. Being a local, I can’t imagine living anywhere else. Kings Beach is as close to the “Real Tahoe” as there is. It’s a small town, surrounded by the beauty of the Sierras and Lake Tahoe. No urban sprawl nor a line of fast food places (Just a small Taco Bell, but not a drive through. ) Growth is controlled and restrained. To be honest, I’d give South Tahoe a 2.
