  • We've been coming here for years and enjoy this campground for its proximity to the beach, town, and wine country; relatively plentiful sites with trees, views, and/or some modicum of privacy; and ame...  read more »

  • El Capitan is amazing for both camping or just a great view of a beautiful beach... also has nice trails through the forest area, never too crowded and a really nice piece of the California coastline that hasn't been developed or crowded by tons of tourists.
  • The beach was very nice. The view was breathtaking. However, I would not recommend to camp here. We did one night at the hike and bike. It costed $10. The camp area itself had a spectacular view of the ocean. But it's situated right near active train tracks. Trains blow through there in the midst of the night. Shaking the ground beneath you and blowing there air horns to show their presence. This happened in the middle of the night. No doubt it will wake you up. If that doesn't, then maybe you will get lucky like we did and have a family reunion extravaganza at the campsite next to yours. They will make sure that everyone is aware of their festive mood. This entertainment can go on until the wee hours. And don't plan on sleeping in either. They will make sure you get an early start. Plus more trains! Woo hoo!
  • Great views, not quite as loud as NASCAR circuit. Close to freeway, but even closer to a very active railroad track. Trains blow their horns late at night just in case the cars don't keep you up. Dusty but not dirty campsites. Bathrooms reasonably clean, not too-too poop scented.
  • What a great beach for day use. We cooked crab on the beach and watched dolphins swim past about 50 yards out.
  • Overnight camping closed as of 7/1016 due to loss of water supply to A fire. Beach and day use only with portable toilets provided.
