  • The views of the coast line from El Capitan State Beach are great looking north. South, you won't see much. The beach itself is tucked away along Highway 101, so it's difficult to see from the road. Walking into the park is a pleasant path, and will take you underneath a rail bridge and through a wooded area before entering the park. Parking near the beach is readily available, and it appears that there is a beach store there, but during our visit it was closed. There is a sign posted on the notice board that the park service is under a severe budget restriction, so this may be contributing to the closing of the store. Also, during our visit, the showers near the bathrooms were shut down, so be ready to improvise in getting all the sand washed off of you. There is also a $10 fee for vehicles to enter the park.
  • Lovely view and walk along the beach, $10 for the two hours we were there is a little steep.
  • The beach was very nice. The view was breathtaking. However, I would not recommend to camp here. We did one night at the hike and bike. It costed $10. The camp area itself had a spectacular view of the ocean. But it's situated right near active train tracks. Trains blow through there in the midst of the night. Shaking the ground beneath you and blowing there air horns to show their presence. This happened in the middle of the night. No doubt it will wake you up. If that doesn't, then maybe you will get lucky like we did and have a family reunion extravaganza at the campsite next to yours. They will make sure that everyone is aware of their festive mood. This entertainment can go on until the wee hours. And don't plan on sleeping in either. They will make sure you get an early start. Plus more trains! Woo hoo!
  • El Capitan is amazing for both camping or just a great view of a beautiful beach... also has nice trails through the forest area, never too crowded and a really nice piece of the California coastline that hasn't been developed or crowded by tons of tourists.
  • Great views, not quite as loud as NASCAR circuit. Close to freeway, but even closer to a very active railroad track. Trains blow their horns late at night just in case the cars don't keep you up. Dusty but not dirty campsites. Bathrooms reasonably clean, not too-too poop scented.
