Florida National Cemetery is a United States National Cemetery located near the city of Bushnell in Sumter County, Florida. Administered by the United States Department of Veterans Affairs, it encompasses, and began interments in 1988.HistoryFlorida National Cemetery is located in the Withlacoochee State Forest, approximately 50mi north of Tampa. The forest was acquired by the federal government from private landowners between 1936 and 1939 under the provisions of the U.S. Land Resettlement Administration. The United States Forest Service managed the property until a lease-purchase agreement transferred it to the Florida Board of Forestry in 1958. Currently, Withlacoochee State Forest is the second-largest state forest in Florida, divided into eight distinct tracts of land.In 1842, Congress encouraged settlement here by establishing the Armed Occupation Act. The law granted a patent for 160acre to any man who kept a gun and ammunition, built a house, cultivated 5acre of the land and remained there for at least five years. Settlers moved in to take advantage of the generous offer. The area contained abundant timber and suitable farmland, appealing attributes to frontiersmen. In 1845 Florida was granted statehood.During the Civil War, a sugar mill on the Homosassa River supplied sugar to the Confederacy. A robust citrus-growing industry developed in the eastern part of the area and became a focus of intense economic expansion soon after the war.Use our Bushnell tour itinerary maker app to arrange your visit to Florida National Cemetery and other attractions in Bushnell.

My father was laid to rest there along with my mother. And I have never had a bad experience in any of my many visits. Very polite staff in every dealing I have had with them. Beautiful setting well maintained. RIP mom and dad. And today I will see a fallen friend and marine laid to rest. God bless all who served.
I recently visited my father's resting place and this is such a pleasant place to visit a loved one. The grounds are beautiful and well maintained. This is a very dignified location for our veterans. I have never had any interaction with the cemetery staff so I can't comment on this aspect but I do find the computer Kiosk maps to be of poor resolution and a little confusing for those who don't come often.
This is my first google review. Yesterday my grandfather was laid to rest at this cemetery. While visiting my family and I had a very unpleasant interaction with one of the staff members named Jose. My family and I weren't sure how the whole process worked. There wasn't anyone there to greet us when we arrived. Jose came rolling up on his golf cart screaming at our group. He was very unprofessional. At a funeral I would expect kindness and compassion more so than at other venues. My cousin who was in his dress blues was scolded by Jose to move his Jeep a few feet like he was a child. He is a man who is serving his country. Then Jose yelled at everyone after my cousin had moved his vehicle to exit the premises and re-enter. Then there was someone at the front who could greeted us and instructed us where to park and wait. Jose seems like a hot head and I am not sure he should be in this business. I went to Arlington National Cemetery last week to visit and had a moving and beautiful experience. The staff their was so kind and welcoming while I was only site seeing. I am not overly excited to deal with Jose again when I go back to visit my Papa.
We had services done on the grounds, 21 gun salute, thanks to the Veterans who volunteered for both my Father, Husband, and hopefully myself. I'd very much recommend this Cemetery. The grounds are patriotic and very well cared for. Thx
My Mom is buried at Bushnell she passed last Feb it's where she wanted to be the staff take great care and pride
