ECHO, Leahy Center for Lake Champlain, Burlington

3.7
#3 of 7 in Parks in Burlington
Home to more than 70 species of amphibians, reptiles, and fish, ECHO, Leahy Center for Lake Champlain will give you an engaging education about the Lake Champlain Basin. Head into the action lab to build virtual mountains, lakes, and rivers with your hands, then take a virtual tour of Lake Champlain's most prominent features. In other exhibits, view displays containing lake inhabitants, such as frogs, snakes, turtles, and big fish, such as sturgeons. Make sure you check the schedule for the theater; films focus on topics such as species that inhabit the lake and surrounding area and Native American tribes indigenous to the region. Before you leave, look over the natural science-themed games and toys in the gift shop. Purchases here support the center's mission of preserving and educating people about Lake Champlain Basin. We stopped in after seeing ads for the butterfly exhibit and had a fun trip. The location is down by the waterfront and within walking distance of Church St and the vast majority of the Burlington wat...  more »

Very small, with uninteresting exhibits. Might be a place to kill some time on a rainy day, but that's about all it is good for.  more »

ECHO is a fantastic place for all ages. What really shines about ECHO is the multitude of hands-on learning and exploration activities, especially for children. There is so much to learn about the nature of Lake Champlain. There are a number of aquariums and small exhibits. A few things to look for: the second floor kids play area is worth the membership, the library in the back is a wealth of information if you are a subject matter expert on Lake Champlain, and take a walk on the second floor outside deck to watch a beautiful sunset. Of course all the staff that I've encountered is very knowledgeable, kind, and ever-present for questions.

This is a must visit place for families, or anyone interested in learning about the local ecology! I went with a group of friends, and really enjoyed ourselves. When we visited, there was a neat butterfly exhibit, definitely check it out while it's there!

I love echo I take my kids one to two times a year. It has all the aquarium animals and interactive things to do. Also they bring animals out so the kids can interact with them which is cool

Very warm and lively place for kids with lots of aquatic animals in display. They also provide space for early learning readiness program which is a great cause for preparing little babies and kids for school readiness. Lively place. They keep changing some of the exhibits on quarterly basis which makes kids more excited about the place. Great fun čĹî
