Knott's Berry Farm, Buena Park
Categories: Theme Parks, Water & Amusement Parks
Hold onto your hats as you take the plunge on the world’s first looping roller coaster at Knott's Berry Farm. Originally a small California berry farm, the amusement park features over 65 hectares (160 acres) of thrill rides, water attractions, and games and arcades, spread throughout six themed areas. Speed down rushing rapids at almost 3.6 m (12 ft) per second on the Timber Mountain Log Ride or enjoy panoramic views of the park and surrounding area from 55 m (180 ft) up in the air on the Sky Cabin ride. Fast track tickets are available for an extra charge if you’d like to avoid long wait times for rides. Our teenage grandkids love Knotts, especially the Scarey Farm. We had a handicapped person in our party and the scooter rental was convenient, but some of the stores were difficult to maneuver.
It's smaller size is so much more manageable. The rides are better and you don't have to wait over an hour for each ride to where you feel ripped off for spending an 8-hour day to ride just 7 rides. I... read more »
So I've skipped a couple years and finally loaded up a van of my kids, friends and kids' friends. I lucked out and found street parking (look on the South border) so saved $20. I went the second day t... read more »
The shows were great! folksy and great fun. Really liked the horseshoe demos. the western demo area are not what I expected. CONS People take cuts in line a ton and there are never any staff around to prevent abuse like that. Rules state that people who save spots or cut in line will be removed from the park but that wasn't enforced at all. SECRET: Tell your kids you are going to drop them off at the western school house. The host was VERY fun for kids with both actual learning while still being mostly a funny skit by the Teacher/actor.
Knott's is a charming, cheaper option to Disneyland. They have a number of rides -- from various coasters and thrill rides to horse-drawn stagecoaches, and a nice kiddie area for children. The atmosphere is generally happy and themed, with a unique touch of history unique to Orange County. Bring your wallet if you plan to purchase food/snacks -- they are not cheap, as is typical for a SoCal theme park. But really, I've been to Knott's a few times and never really had a negative experience. It's worth spending a vacation day there, or just stopping by for a day if you live locally.
The food options are not great -- the only place to get something healthy is actually Johnny Rockets, which is also surprisingly the best food value in the park for a family. As a place for rides, go on an off day and you have a terrific value. The shows are well done and you can get through the lines quickly. It is well thought out and super fun, with rides of all sizes.
Definitely a great alternative amusement park than the pricier and glamorous Disneyland. Captures the old wild west setting with rides such as the abandoned mine train ride, stagecoach etc... a more subdued and sedated atmosphere than the glitter, sparkle of the Disney theme park.
Had a great time here with our family. With a mix of adults, teenagers and an 8 year old, there was something for everyone. From top thrill rides to more sedate rides, we went on them all! The park had pleasant staff, although loading on the rides was somewhat slow. They didn't fill in all the spaces which made the queues longer. Also the lack of wait times at the beginning of the queue was annoying. Park was very clean and had a nice vibe. We really enjoyed it and would recommend
