Samuel H. Boardman State Scenic Corridor is a linear state park in southwestern Oregon, in the United States. It is 12mi long and thickly forested along steep and rugged coastline with a few small sand beaches. It is named in honor of Samuel H. Boardman, the first Oregon Parks superintendent. It is located from 3to north of Brookings, between the Pacific Ocean and U.S. Route 101. The north end abuts the Pistol River State Scenic Viewpoint. More than 14 named creeks cross the corridor. The Oregon Coast Trail meanders for about 27mi through the park, among 300-year-old Sitka spruce trees and several natural arches and bridges. There is beach access and some sand dunes. The Oregon Islands National Wildlife Refuge and Oregon Islands Wilderness protect wildlife and habitat on all of the approximately 130 rocks and islands along the corridor's shore.HistoryThe area was used by Native Americans. Later, it was used by several (now abandoned) mining operations, whose ruins are still visible. At the Indian Sands site within the park, archaeological finds have provided evidence of human activity in this area 10,000 to 12,000 years ago, which is likely the result of migration along the Pacific coast from the area of the Bering Land Bridge.

  • We stayed in Gold Beach on our way north but took the time to come back down along the coast to see the sights along the SHB scenic corridor. Well worth the time. Some beautiful stops with great scene...  more »
  • Blue skies with a bracing breeze the May day we were there. Pleasant walk of about an hour but can be a short as you wish. Stunning scenery.  more »
  • Nice trail about 1 and 1/2 mile round trip. What a beautiful ocean lagoon and natural bridge formation. We actually were able to climb over to the bridge and explore around the rock.  more »

  • Was great but we stayed at the whaleshead resort next to a home that some guy lived in.. he was watching us the whole time .. weird!!! And when we had a couple friends over that lived in Brookings , they charge our credit card for more people without even talking to us about it.. I have we have stayed here several times in the past. We will Never come back here. We will pay more money to have a real vacation!
  • I only stopped to use the walking trail. I did not check out the campground. Although one day I would like to stay there in my RV. The walking trails take you over to the top and looking down over to the lighthouse at heceta head. Great opportunities for photographing, getting in some exercise, and picnicking for the day.
  • IMO, the most beautiful part of the PCH/Oregon coastline. Easy driving along here but be sure to stop and take the short hikes to the coastline - you’ll reap great rewards with sights like these!
  • Great for hikers and photography. Trails vary on difficulty. Physical agility needed for most areas. There are a view areas for people with physical disabilities.
  • Wow I've never seen such brilliant blue water on the Oregon coast! Highly recommend checking out the Natural Bridge viewpoint. From the parking area, there is a trail to the north and to the south - definitely do the southern one!! And wear shoes with traction.
