Samuel H. Boardman State Scenic Corridor is a linear state park in southwestern Oregon, in the United States. It is 12mi long and thickly forested along steep and rugged coastline with a few small sand beaches. It is named in honor of Samuel H. Boardman, the first Oregon Parks superintendent. It is located from 3to north of Brookings, between the Pacific Ocean and U.S. Route 101. The north end abuts the Pistol River State Scenic Viewpoint. More than 14 named creeks cross the corridor. The Oregon Coast Trail meanders for about 27mi through the park, among 300-year-old Sitka spruce trees and several natural arches and bridges. There is beach access and some sand dunes. The Oregon Islands National Wildlife Refuge and Oregon Islands Wilderness protect wildlife and habitat on all of the approximately 130 rocks and islands along the corridor's shore.HistoryThe area was used by Native Americans. Later, it was used by several (now abandoned) mining operations, whose ruins are still visible. At the Indian Sands site within the park, archaeological finds have provided evidence of human activity in this area 10,000 to 12,000 years ago, which is likely the result of migration along the Pacific coast from the area of the Bering Land Bridge.

  • We stayed in Gold Beach on our way north but took the time to come back down along the coast to see the sights along the SHB scenic corridor. Well worth the time. Some beautiful stops with great scene...  more »
  • Blue skies with a bracing breeze the May day we were there. Pleasant walk of about an hour but can be a short as you wish. Stunning scenery.  more »
  • Nice trail about 1 and 1/2 mile round trip. What a beautiful ocean lagoon and natural bridge formation. We actually were able to climb over to the bridge and explore around the rock.  more »

  • If you are anywhere near this place make sure to visit these beautiful trees. The park is majestic and they have hikes for all different types of hikers. Family hikes and more advanced hikes. The river is beautiful as well. Bring a camera because you will see beauty that you have never seen before.
  • The Oregon coast has to be one of the most beautiful places on earth. As night turns to day a fantasy plays out right before your eyes. The mist and fog over the ocean is absolutely stunning. I could easily sit for hours and watch this amazing display while my mind wanders. The peace and serenity of the forest soothes my Soul and I could easily get lost in its beauty. This is mother nature at her finest offering up a paradise for anyone willing to slow down and enjoy.
  • About 6 to 8 stops along the coastal highway. Amazingly beautiful views, if weather permits. You should take half or even a full day to really fully enjoy it
  • This state land is incredible. It's so different from the rest of the coast with beautiful rocky cliffs overlooking the ocean. However, be VERY careful on some of the side trails. None are marked and they get very steep.
  • This area of Oregon's coastline is one of the most beautiful coastlines I have seen in the United States it's beautiful with its Cliffs at sea stacks its large Forest the large redwoods and Douglas Firs that grow along here there's many pull out spots and park areas to grab a view a picnic plenty of places to select and stay along this area as well it is a photographer's Paradise beautiful if you're in Oregon and you're going to go up the coast stop and check it out
