#2 of 60 in Nature in Ohio
National Park Nature / Park
Cuyahoga Valley National Park follows the Cuyahoga River, allowing visitors to hike or bike one of the many trails that showcase the region's waterfalls, old canals, and forests. The Towpath Trail runs 33.5 km (21 mi) along ravines and past craggy boulders. As you pass what look like typical farms, you'll discover that sections along the trails are recreated 19th- and early 20th-century farmland growing crops from these eras. You'll see several city parks included in the protected lands, many of which have concert and event venues. To tour the park while saving your feet, consider a ride on the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad. Facilities are available at either end of the trails, and a few restaurants and markets offer refreshments, but be sure to bring enough water for hike. • Parking was easy and we took the trail down to the falls and then a 3 mile loop. Gorgeous scenery. We didn't think the trails were marked terribly well but we found our way -- and had to beat a rainst...  more »
  • The linear park is a rural retreat within the Cleveland metropolitan area. The centrally located Boston Store visitors center is a very pleasant spot to organize a bike ride or walk along the towpath....  more »
  • We drove all the way from Michigan just to see the falls and it was worth it. Windy roads, good signage thankfully. The visitors center was great, very helpful staff!!! Despite being significantly sma...  more »

  • Great National Park close to Cleveland. Scenic train is a must! Saw most of the park in one afternoon, so great if you're on a time constraint. Next time coming back with bikes, had a great time here. Very scenic!
  • A great park. Lots to see and plenty of nature in the heart of Ohio. Not as rustic as some, but not every trip needs bison and bears. Quaint homes, train rides, bike riding, board walks to water falls with B&B's and comfortable hotels near by make this a great option for those that don't want to drive too far or rough it.
  • Obviously not as rustic as some of the western parks being 30 minutes from Cleveland, so temper your expectations as far as that goes. But it's a beautiful park, with lovely waterfalls, wetlands, and bridges. Quaint towns inside the park give access to shops and dining. I didn't bring my bike or ride the train, so I'll have to return! Definitely bring or rent bikes. A surprising amount of this park was wheelchair/stroller accessible, including some of the major trails.
  • Ohio's National Park has plenty to do. Variety of hiking trails, the towpath trail, Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad, the Cuyahoga River, golf, dining and more with a beautiful n natural backdrop. Ranger-led hikes are a great way to learn more about the park.
  • Love this place always have since I've been a child sled riding brought my kids here during their youth just adore this place.. and I've Been Everywhere. But you have to love the Cuyahoga Valley National Parks
